PurposeThis study aims to analyse the adoption of mobile payment applications during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic using the technology acceptance model (TAM) and Technology Readiness Index (TRI).Design/methodology/approachThe data were collected from 400 mobile payment application users in Indonesia. The structural equation model–partial least square (SEM-PLS) analysis was conducted to analyse the relationship between variables and test a series of hypotheses.FindingsTRI constructs affect perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, with the exception of discomfort which has no significant effect on the perceived usefulness. In addition, attitude is influenced by two main TAM variables: perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Meanwhile, the intention to use mobile payment applications is influenced by attitude.Research limitations/implicationsThis study will assist mobile payment application service providers and policymakers in planning services and increasing the adoption of mobile payment applications during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study will also add the existing knowledge about the mobile payment applications literature in the context of a pandemic.Originality/valueThis study is the first to empirically employ the TAM and TRI in analysing the adoption of mobile payment applications during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Purpose This paper aims to examine loyalty formation, including service quality, perceived value, image and satisfaction as determinants, and their effect on the financial performance of Islamic banks. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 280 Islamic bank clients in Indonesia and bank financial performance data from bank financial reports. Variance-based partial least square modelling was used to assess the relationships between loyalty, its determinants and their influence on bank financial performance. Findings This study finds that client loyalty towards Islamic banks is most influenced by perceived service quality and perceived value. Further, this study documents the importance of client loyalty in influencing bank financial performance and indirect effect of clients’ satisfaction on financial performance through the strengthening of client loyalty. Practical implications This study offers a path for the managers of Islamic banks to enhance financial performance by enhancing client loyalty. To develop client loyalty, this study suggests that Islamic banks should offer economical and service-derived benefits that are superior to those other banks offer. Further, Islamic banks need to ensure that their business operations are compatible with Islamic values. Originality/value This is an early empirical study attempting to examine the link between customer loyalty and its impact on Islamic bank financial performance.
The development of technology has changed various sectors in life to be smart, including tourism. This study aims to analyze the effect of smart tourism technology attributes on visit intention and visiting tourist destinations. This study used a sample of 324 tourists in West Java Province, Indonesia. Partial Least Square is applied to test the relationship between variables. The results of the study revealed that smart tourism technology attributes such as smart information systems, smart tourism management, smart sightseeing, e-commerce systems, smart safety, smart traffic, and virtual tourism objects affect visit intention. The study also revealed the effect of visiting intentions on visits to tourist destinations. The findings of this study provide the basis for formulating strategies for implementing smart tourism technology that is appropriate in attracting tourist visits.
