A field study about the nutritional status was made in school classes with boys 6 to 19 years old in different regions of Saudi-Arabia. It is reported about 341 pupils in regard to weight, height, skinfold-thickness, circumferences and other body-size measurements. In comparison with anthropometric measurements of comparable surveys in other countries, the Saudi-Arabian school boys were found to be smaller and leaner than boys from the USA, Europe, other Arabian countries and well-to-do Indian boys.
C OST accounts have long been an integral part of industrial economics. In agriculture, however, some believe that concrete calculations of production costs are not possible. On farms it is more difficult to obtain the necessary data and there is less relevant knowledge, experience and technical equipment than in the manufacturing industry. In the latter, extensive and detailed accounts are usually kept. Further, the great differences in the natural, economic and other productive conditions hamper the framing of general rules for agricultural cost accounts. Unforeseen plant and livestock diseases and unfavorable weather conditions may cause great fluctations in costs and returns. We shall here deal only with the cost of human labour. According to Heuser the cost of human labour average 57 per cent of the total costs. This high percentage justifies an analysis of labour costs, even though it is often difficult on account of the structure of the family holding. Cost studies have shown, that the cost of human labour is about 40 per cent of the total costs, while Woermann states 50 per cent, for wages and costs of equipment. 'Reliable data are not yet available as to what part the cost of human energy is of the total cost of human labour. We may well ask: From where does the required energy come and can the cost be calculated? The energy used in bodily labour is derived from the energy supplied to the body in the form of food. For this purpose the human body converts chemical energy into mechanical energy. Man has not only to convert energy, but also to produce a specified sort of labour. So the limiting factor of every type of labour is constituted by the amount of energy at
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
