Small plastic buttons were sutured in place in the rectum, urodeum and other sites in the cloaca of White Leghorn hens and the effects upon feed consumption were determined. When the foreign body was placed in the rectum there was a marked decrease in feed consumption, which returned to normal after removal of the object. Mechanical stimulation by the foreign bodies in other areas of the cloaca was without effect.
