Local corrosion damage on the external surfaces of tubing are most frequent causes of failure in a housing installation. The processes are electrochemical and independent from the medium being transported. In tubing in which warm media are flowing the corrosion reactions may be accelerated. Statements concerning the origin of corrosion and protective measures are generally applicable to gas, water and heating tubing as well as to seamless and welded galvanized and ungalvanized steel tubes.
