WAliphatische Ketone, Aldehyde sowie P-Dicarbonylverbindungen reagieren mit methylenaktiven Nitrilen und Schwefel in Gegenwart von Aminen bei Raumtemperatur zu 2-Aminothiophenen. -Eine Variante der Synthese, die Einwirkung von Schwefel auf vinyloge methylenaktive Nitrile, gestattet auch die Einbeziehung von Alkylarylketonen in die Reaktion.In der vorangegangenen Mitteilung 1 ) haben wir iiber die Bildung von 2-Aminothiophenen aus a-0x0-mercaptanen und methylenaktiven Nitrilen berichtet (Gl. 3). Wie wir bereits andeutetenz), la& sich die Syiithese noch weiter vereinfachen, indem man a-methylenaktive Nitrile (wie Malodinitril, Cyanessigester u. a.) und elementaren Schwefel gemeinsam auf aliphatische Carbonylverbindungen, die eine freie a-Methylengruppe besitzen, einwirken la& (Gl. (1) = Variante a). 1-18R, R' und X s. Tab. + s R -C e 7 -X A R'-H+!! CNAls Hilfsbasen eignen sich stark basische sekundare und tertiare Amine, von denen hier allerdings im Gegensatz zur oben erwahnten Umsetzung der a-0x0-mercaptane (GI. 3) 0.5 -1 Mol-Aquivalente, bezogen auf das Nitril, angewandt werden mussen. Fur einen genugend raschen Ablauf der exothermen Umsetzung bei Raumteniperatur sind polare Losungsmittel erforderlich. Beschreibung cler VersucheGew.-Bestimmung durch isotherme Destillation in Aceton. Durstellung der Atom gepulvertemSchwefel und 20-30 ccm k h a n o l wird unter Riihren mit etwa 10 ccm Diuthyhmin oder Morpholin versetzt. Unter Erwarmung lost sich dabei der Schwefel allmahlich auf; die Temperatur sol1 60" nicht ubersteigen. VerlPuft die Reaktion sehr langsam, erwarmt man auf dem Wasserbad auf 30-40". Nach 1-3 Stdn. ist die Reaktion beendet. Tritt bereits beim Abkuhlen Kristallisation ein, so laBt man noch einige Stdn. im Kiihlschrank stehen. Sonst wird das Gemisch in das 2-3fache Vol. Wasser eingeriihrt. Nach beendeter Kristallisation saugt man ab und kristallisiert aus wenig khan01 urn.Bei flussig anfallenden Endprodukten wird nach Verdiinnen mit Wasser nochmals ausgeathert und destilliert.

The maintenance and improvement of current properties and the creation of new material properties are the most important reasons for the functionalisation of textiles. The coating of textiles with chemically or physically modified silica sols with particle diameters smaller than 50 nm (''nanosols'') enables the manifold alteration of their physico-mechanical, optical, electrical and biological properties. Thus the protection of textiles against destruction and the creation of new advantageous functions can be realised. Prospective new products to be developed include textiles with water, oil and soil repellency and with antimicrobial properties. This article discusses recent results from applying modified silica nanosols to the functionalisation of textiles.

LiNbO 3 (LN) and LiTaO 3 (LT) materials of polar crystal structure exhibit a spontaneous polarization that can be changed by temperature. This phenomenon, commonly known as the pyroelectric effect, leads to the generation of surface charges that in turn are the source for a pyroelectrocatalytic or pyroelectrochemical activity of these materials described in this paper. It can also be regarded as a selective conversion of thermal via electrical to chemical energy based on the pyroelectric effect. In this context, we have investigated the impact of thermally excited pyroelectric LN and LT nano-and microcrystalline powder materials on the bacterium Escherichia coli in aqueous solutions. Powders have been prepared both by milling of commercially available single crystals and by precursorbased solution routes. Our results show that in dependence on the crystallite size and surface area of the pyroelectric particulate material in direct contact with the cells and/or their culture solution, a high antimicrobial activity can be achieved. On the basis of further experimental results of oxidative conversion of the fluorescent dye 2′,7′-dichlorofluorescin, a disinfection mechanism including the formation of reactive oxygen species at the pyroelectric particle surface is proposed. The phenomenon is discussed in analogy to the well-established photocatalytic disinfection mechanism.

Biologically modified ceramics (biocers) are understood as a class of nanocomposites which combine biocomponents with ceramic-like matrices. Biocers containing biocomponents can be prepared as a bulk material or as coatings by sol-gel and freeze-cast techniques from inorganic nanosols or by special CVD methods. By avoiding critical preparation conditions (high temperature, organic solvents) which would lead to denaturation, even bacteria, fungi, and yeast cells can be incorporated while maintaining their viability ('living ceramics'). In this article the preparation and structure of such biocers and their applicative potential for biocatalytic, biosorptive and structure-forming processes will be discussed.
