Studies have been made of variations in the solution viscosity of GR-S polymers during polymerization with the object of providing a means of studying the behavior of mercaptan modifiers. The viscosity vs. conversion curves depend on the amount and type of various mercaptans charged and correlate with the rates of depletion of the mercaptans. The polymer viscosities increase during the early stages of the polymerization reaction, usually reaching a maximum at monomer conversions of around 75%.At higher conversions insoluble gel usually begins to form,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
