As part of a study of the capabilities of processes suitable for the rapid prototyping of sheet metal parts, two variants of incremental forming have been investigated experimentally and with finite element analysis. By examining the manufacture of similar parts by both processes some important differences between the capabilities of the two methods are highlighted. In particular, significant differences in the patterns of thickness variation and initial fracture sites are observed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
