Based on the early observation by researchers of the two Science textbooks 7th Grade about biological material, 1st and 2nd semester of curriculum 2013, there were errors in the material presentation and legibility. This study aimed to compare and find the contents suitability of the book based on standard of competence and basic competences, readability, materials presentation and supporting material in the science textbook VII grade, 1st and 2nd semester and measured student legibility. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach by using document analysis. The data resources were obtained by using purposive, the data collection was triangulation, data analysis was inductive/qualitative and the results emphasized the meaning. This research results showed that the Integrated Sciences and Sciences textbook 1st and 2nd semester meet the standards of the core competencies and basic competence on the syllabus curriculum 2013 and also meet the books standart. The results of the analysis conducted in misstatement concept and principles and material llustration in the Integrated Science textbook 1st semester were found 5 misstatement concept, for the presentation of the principles and material illustration was found no error. In the book Integrated Sciences there was no delivery errors concept, principle, and material illustration. Science textbook 1st semester found 8 concepts misstatements and 8 illustration material misstatements. In general, Integrated Sciences and Sciences textbooks 1st and 2nd semester are illegibility so not appropriate for students.
This research aimed to analyze the relationship of learning independence and laerning motivation with laerning achievement of Grade XI cross-major biology students at SMA Hang Tuah Tarakan. The study was correlation research using a descriptive correlational method with quantitative approach. The research population was 58 students with the samples collected using a total sampling technique. All data were obtained based on the questionnaire score on learning independence, learning motivation, and learning achievement from biology mid-semester test, and the analyzed using Multiple Linear Test of figure out the relationship of learning independence and learning motivation (X) with biology learning achievement (Y). The research result show that there is a relationship of learning independence and learning motivation with biology laerning achievement with the significance value of 0.0009 0.005. There was a relationship between learning independence and biology learning achievement with the significance value of 0.0042; and there was a relationship between learning motivation and biology achievement with the significance value of 0.020 0.005.Keywords: Independence, Motivation, Biology learning achievement
Nomei fish (Harpodon nehereus) is a local marine fish found in the territorial waters of Tarakan. This fish is a commercial fish that is widely marketed in dry form, so the fish Nomei become one of the specialties foods of Tarakan. Continuous Nomei fishing will have an impact on the fishermen's incomes that begin to fall and the extinction of these fish in ecosystem habitats. One effort that can be done to preserve the existence of Nomei fish is the basic research related to habitat and Nomei spawning preference that founded in coastal areas of Tarakan, North Kalimantan. The benefits of this research are as a reference in the determination of Nomei spawning habitat based on breeding preferences of Nomei, also as the basis of management and conservation of Nomei declining as well as efforts to conserve local marine fish of Tarakan. This research type is descriptive qualitative, with survey approach. Descriptive qualitative, explaining Nomei spawning preferences based on fish habitat types. The use of descriptive type is expected to determine the spawning preference and the dispersal habitat type of Nomei. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk melestarikan keberadaan ikan Nomei yaitu penelitian dasar terkait habitat dan preferensi pemijahan ikan Nomei yang ditemukan di wilayah pesisir Tarakan, Kalimantan Utara. Manfaat dari penelitian ini yaitu sebagai acuan dalam penentuan habitat pemijahan ikan Nomei berdasarkan preferensi pemijahan ikan Nomei, sebagai dasar pengelolaan dan pelestarian ikan Nomei yang semakin menurun serta upaya melakukan konservasi ikan laut lokal Tarakan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif kualitatif, dengan pendekatan survei. Deskriptif kualitatif, menjelaskan preferensi pemijahan ikan Nomei berdasarkan tipe habitat ikan tersebut. Penggunaan jenis penelitian deskriptif diharapkan dapat menentukan tempat preferensi pemijahan ikan Nomei dan tipe habitat penyebaran ikan Nomei. Kemampuan siswa dalam menguasai dan mempelajari ilmu pengetahuan berkaitan erat dengan perkembangan sains dan teknologi yang saat ini semakin pesat sehingga siswa dituntut agar memiliki kemampuan literasi sains yang baik. Salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran yang memungkinkan untuk digunakan di kelas dalam usaha meningkatkan literasi sains siswa ialah melalui pendekatan SETS (Science, Environment, Technology and Society). Titik pusat pembelajaran sains berwawasan SETS ialah penggabungan antara konsep sains yang dipelajari dan implikasinya terhadap lingkungan, teknologi dan masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penerapan pendekatan SETS terhadap literasi sains siswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimen semu dengan desain penelitian time series. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan dan sampel penelitian adalah kelas VII J. Hasil penelitian uji homogenitas dan uji normalitas didapatkan hasil bahwa data homogeny dan normal. Analisis uji T sampel berpasangan diperoleh hasil dengan nilai signifikasi 0,000. Jika sig(2-tailed) <0,05 maka Ha diterima, kesimpulannya bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pretes dan postes. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa: 1) Pendekatan SETS berpengaruh dan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pretes pertama hingga keempat dengan postes pertama hingga keempat, 2) Grafik hasil penelitian menunjukkan hasil nilai rata-rata pretes stabil dan konsisten kemudian setelah diberikan perlakuan keadaannya meningkat secara konsisten pula.
This research is motivated by the low achievement of scientific literacy in Indonesia in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) study participation held every three years by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This study aims to determine the scientific literacy ability of Class VIII Junior High School students in Tarakan City, which was taken using the Purposive Sampling technique. The data was taken using a test method in the form of a description question. The test given was adopted from the PISA questions published by the National Assessment Program (NAP) published in 2009 and translated into Indonesian. The results showed that the Science Literacy Ability of Class VIII Junior High School Students in Tarakan City was categorized as less with a percentage of 44.04%. At each level, students can only answer questions with levels 1 and 2, while for questions with levels 3 and 4, they are still very lacking. So it was concluded that the scientific literacy skills of class VIII junior high school students in Tarakan City were still lacking. Keywords: scientific literacy, student, PISA
