La idea de que el aprendizaje depende únicamente de la inteligencia del estudiante ha pasado a la historia, investigaciones actuales argumentan que variables como la motivación y la atención son importantes en un aprendizaje que va más allá del aprendizaje memorístico implicado en un proceso de asimilación. El presente trabajo tuvo la finalidad de determinar la relación existente entre motivación y atención en estudiantes de Educación General Básica, a través de un análisis de tipo cuantitativo, no experimental, de alcance descriptivo correlacional, de corte transversal. Se contó con la participación de 65 estudiantes, 51% de sexo femenino y 49% de sexo masculino, de entre 8 y 10 años de edad, alumnos de tercero a quinto año de una Institución Educativa de la ciudad de Ambato, Provincia de Tungurahua; quienes fueron seleccionados por muestreo no probabilístico. El estudio se realizó mediante la aplicación de la escala Harter y el Test de Atención d2 de Rolf Brickenkamp. Los resultados indicaron una significación estadística de correlación positiva. No obstante, son necesarias más indagaciones que muestren causalidad entre estas variables.
