El presente libro tiene por objetivo ofrecer a los estudiantes de las carreras de biología —en sus distintas especialidades: botánica, ecología, zoología, paleontología; geología y geoquímica— que por primera vez incursionan en matemática, una herramienta de estudio dirigida. ¿Por qué un nuevo libro de matemática, habiendo tantos y de tan variada editorial? En primer lugar, durante nuestra experiencia docente en diferentes universidades del país, observamos que en el proceso de enseñanza usábamos libros elaborados por matemáticos, en los que no existía el ejemplo concreto de la disciplina donde se dicta la materia. En general estas explicaciones resultaban ajenas a la realidad del estudiante, limitando los alcances y comprensión de los diferentes temas. Este es un sentir común y recurrente en charlas y discusiones entre los profesores del área. Así nació la idea de elaborar un texto que cumpliera con esas demandas y con la currícula específica, iniciando al alumno en la explicación de los conceptos matemáticos aplicados a las Ciencias Naturales.
En este trabajo se trata de relacionar los orígenes del Enfoque Basado en Competencias (EBC), la construcción del concepto de competencias, el sustento que brinda este enfoque a los cambios propiciados por el CONFEDI, y la relación entre competencias y resultados de aprendizaje. Se discuten los cambios observados en los procesos de enseñanza y de aprendizaje en experiencias realizadas en el Departamento de Ciencias Básicas de FRLP, UTN.
El libro propone una matemática contextualizada al perfil profesional de los estudiantes de Arquitectura y acompaña su trayectoria educativa con un material acorde a sus particularidades. La matemática y el lenguaje son áreas fundamentales en el desarrollo de los alumnos, que en forma especial ayudan a “aprender a aprender” y a aprender a pensar. Además, les aportan competencias básicas e indispensables para incorporarse al mercado laboral.
