Este artigo é um recorte de uma pesquisa mais abrangente defendida como tese no curso de doutorado latino-americano em educação, políticas públicas e profissão docente da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais intitulada: Formação de professores para a Educação de Pessoas Jovens e Adultas (EPJA), no Brasil e no Chile: Um estudo comparado entre a Região de Valparaíso e o Estado da Bahia. Neste texto, nos limitamos em apresentar os dados que foram produzidos no período de estágio doutoral realizado no Chile. Considerando que a pesquisa acadêmica sobre a EPJA nesse país é incipiente e mantém uma relação direta com a pouca relevância que tem sido dada a essa modalidade enquanto política pública, o estudo em tela possibilitou coletar e sistematizar dados para análise, interpretação e comparação a partir da perspectiva metodológica da educação comparada, numa abordagem panorâmica sobre a trajetória recente da EPJA no país quanto a suas concepções, finalidades e inserção no âmbito da política educacional chilena. Evidenciamos que a perspectiva certificadora da EPJA no Chile acompanha as bases ideológicas da política neoliberal assumida pelo Estado, levando a crer que a modalidade deve cumprir apenas com a finalidade de integrar seus sujeitos ao mundo do trabalho e garantir a empregabilidade.
La Educación de Jóvenes y Adultos (EPJA) en Chile, es una modalidad del sistema educativo, que da oportunidad a quienes no han terminado sus estudios educación básica o educación media, y representan a un tercio aproximadamente de la población. Esta modalidad tiene dos opciones, regular y flexible, la primera es con horarios y asistencia regular impartida en escuelas, y la segunda con horarios flexibles, impartida por otras instituciones o entidades ejecutoras. La EPJA históricamente no ha tenido una presencia relevante en el sistema educativo y sus docentes se han enfrentado a un contexto complejo e invisibilizado. Por la naturaleza de esta modalidad y su especificidad, se optó en este estudio, por una metodología cualitativa. Se eligió un estudio de caso; una institución universitaria de la región de Valparaíso que imparte la modalidad flexible, se aplicó un cuestionario a los profesores, relevando categorías, se incorporó además, información cuantitativa que describe los antecedentes del programa. El objetivo del estudio, fue conocer la opinión de los docentes respecto a la aplicación y conceptualización del curiculum de adultos en esta modalidad. La reflexión se realizó en torno al concepto de curriculum y la propuesta es un repensar su aplicación a la luz de los resultados referidos a cuestionamientos de los docentes, respecto a la construcción del currículum, la práctica docente y el contexto. Como conclusiones, el curriculum no determina la práctica del docente, pero sí la condiciona, surge la necesidad de participar en su construcción e incorporar desde su praxis la necesidad de la contextualización como variable fundamental para acertar en la práctica educativa.
