A shorted magneto electric dipole with orthogonal dual polarization is designed for modern wireless communications. The proposed antenna is a wideband dual-polarized antenna consisting of magneto electric dipoles, which are fed by novel hook-shaped strip feeds. The antenna proposed in this paper is simulated using EM simulation software called high-frequency structure simulator. The simulated and measured results are presented. This antenna achieves 45.4% of impedance bandwidth of −10 dB RL for frequency range from 1.7 to 2.7 GHz. This frequency range covers the wireless communications applications like GSM 1800/1900, WCDMA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.
A high performance substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slotted array antenna with low sidelobe level and optimum gain at 28 GHz is designed, and experimental results are presented with simulated data. In order to achieve a low sidelobe level, Chebyshev power coefficients in the form of slot displacements are applied to the SIW array antenna. A MATLAB program has been written to find these slot displacements. This work entails investigating and designing the optimum microstrip to SIW transition over the Ka-band, designing a 1 × 8 slotted SIW array antenna, and finally applying the Chebyshev power coefficients to the slots of the 1 × 8 SIW array antenna. The fabricated prototype of a 1 × 8 SIW slotted array antenna is tested, and its performance is studied in terms of gain and half power beam width (HPBW), compared with simulations. The measured results of the 1 × 8 slotted SIW array antenna at 28 GHz have a |S 11 | of better than −20 dB, a gain of 13 dB, and an HPBW of 17 • . The overall dimensions of the design at 28 GHz are 7.143 mm × 51.8 mm × 0.254 mm (0.667λ o × 4.84λ o × 0.023λ o = 0.0766λ 3 o mm 3 ).
A four-stage switched beam antenna array at millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequencies is designed, fabricated, and experimental results are demonstrated. A novel rectangular loop dipole antenna (RLDA) applying the quasi Yagi-Uda concept is designed to achieve high gain and wide bandwidth with end-fire radiation. This RLDA with director has a return loss better than 10 dB over a frequency range of 32 GHz to 37 GHz and a peak gain of 8.5 dB. The proposed high gain end-fire RLDA antenna in combination with a 4 × 4 Butler Matrix (BM) creates the switched beam configuration and generates four beams in the directions of 15and −15 • ± 1 • at 33.5 GHz, 34.5 GHz, and 35.5 GHz with successive input port excitation. The switched beam configuration has overall dimensions at 34.5 GHz is 26 mm × 25.8 mm (3.03λ × 3.0λ).
