RESUMOLantana camara L. e Psittacanthus calyculatus (DC.) G. Don, ocorrem simpatricamente e florescem em sincronia em La Mancha, Veracruz, México. Foram investigadas as estratégias florais (morfologia, coloração, recompensas) de cada espécie e o comportamento dos visitantes florais para se avaliar até que ponto a sincronia de floração interfere na eficiência de polinização. L. camara é uma espécie arbustiva, freqüente, ocorre formando densas touceiras, floresce praticamente durante o ano todo e apresenta vistosas inflorescências corimbosas. P. calyculatus é uma espécie hemiparasita, lenhosa, floresce de julho a novembro com densas inflorescências conspícuas. Ambas as espécies têm flores produtoras de néctar, tubulosas, de cor amarelo-alaranjada ao desabrochar, mudando para o vermelho-alaranjado no segundo dia. Devido à maior freqüência às flores de L. camara e à eficiência na coleta de pólen, os lepidópteros Agraulis vanillae, Anartia fatima, A. jatrophea e Junonia sp. foram considerados polinizadores primários enquanto que os beija-flores Amazilia yucatanensis, A. tzacatl foram considerados polinizadores primários de P. calyculatus. Doze espécies de lepidópteros visitaram indistintamente L. camara e P. calyculatus, tendo sido denominados polinizadores secundários. Com relação aos sistemas reprodutivos, os testes demonstraram que L. camara e P. calyculatus são xenogâmicas e auto-incompatíveis. Os dados obtidos, sobre a floração convergente, a similaridade na coloração floral e a síndrome de polinização de L. camara e P. calyculatus, sugerem que essas espécies estão envolvidas em um tipo de associação floral, no qual as duas beneficiam-se igualmente.Palavras-chave: biologia da reprodução, fenologia floral, simpatria. Debido a su mayor frecuencia y eficiencia en la colecta del polen, los lepidópteros Agraulis vanillae, Anartia fatima, A. jatrophea y Junonia sp., fueron considerados polinizadores primarios de las flores de L. camara. Mientras que los colibríes Amazilia yucatensis y A. tzacatl se definieron en el mismo papel para P. calyculatus. Registramos la variación estacional de una interacción hormiga-homóptero-planta en el valle semiárido de Zapotitlán, Puebla, México. Los cóccidos estuvieron presentes en 35 (21.9%) de los individuos muestreados de Agave kerchovei. El ambrosía es forrajeado todo el año por hormigas (Camponotus rubríthorax), y el excedente se desplaza hoja abajo y es utilizado como sustrato por hongos, o es activamente forrajeado por insectos de diversos grupos (Díptera, Hymenoptera). Las hormigas son significativamente más abundantes en la época más fresca y seca del año; también variaron de manera significativa con la precipitación y la densidad de homópteros. Las moscas, avispas y abejas fueron más abundantes durante el periodo más cálido y húmedo del año. El número de moscas se incrementa con la densidad de homópteros. El número de insectos voladores presentes en cualquier mes está asociado significativamente con la temperatura y el diámetro de las plantas. El número de hormigas y moscas depende en parte de la densidad de homópteros pero también de los factores ambientales. El ambrosía atrae a una variedad de insectos generando interacciones entre organismos que conformarían comunidades diferentes. La mayoría de los visitantes son depredadores, parásitos o parasitoides, quienes forrajean ambrosía, pero que están evidentemente atraídos por una gran cantidad de posibles hospederos o presas.
Se cuantificó el número y la variación estacional de las asociaciones hormiga-planta en un bosque montano bajo cerca de Xalapa, Veracruz, México. Registramos cinco especies de hormigas y 12 especies de angiospermas en 17 asociaciones. No se encontraron asociaciones obligatorias. Las especies de hormigas utilizaron de manera diferencial los recursos alimenticios disponibles; usaron significativamente más el néctar extrafloral y menos el néctar floral y la ambrosía. Un modelo lineal generalizado ajustado a la curva de asociaciones hormiga-planta explicó el 29% de la variación. El 14% es explicado por la precipitación y el 15% por la interacción entre factores (precipitación-temperatura). Los resultados indican que: (1) en el bosque montano bajo estudiado la proporción de plantas asociadas con hormigas es baja; (2) los factores ambientales considerados no explican la variación estacional en el número de asociaciones hormiga-planta; y (3) el bajo número de asociaciones hormiga-planta encontrado, probablemente se debe al bajo porcentaje de especies que presentan nectarios exraflorales en la vegetación, producto de la dominancia de elementos florísticos holárticos o templados.
Trichocentrum stramineum es una orquídea endémica del centro de Veracruz y en categoría de riesgo como amenazada según la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 por la reducción poblacional donde habita. Poca información se ha generado de esta orquídea en la literatura especializada y hasta antes del presente trabajo se desconocían sus visitantes florales y su potencial polinizador. De 2014 a 2017, se realizaron observaciones directas e indirectas a las inflorescencias de T. stramineum para registrar los visitantes florales y determinar al potencial polinizador en dos localidades de su distribución geográfica. Se registraron dos especies de visitantes florales en la localidad 1 y tres en la localidad 2. La abeja Centris nitida (Apidae) fue observada efectuando la remoción y deposición de los polinios de T. stramineum en ambas localidades. La abeja Centris tarsata (Apidae) fue observada un par de ocasiones en cada localidad sin que realizara remoción ni deposición de los polinios. La avispa Polybia sp., fue observada en dos ocasiones sólo en la localidad 2 sin llevar a cabo la remoción de polinios. La orquídea T. stramineum presenta un sistema especializado de polinización al depender solo de una especie para la fecundación de las flores. Los registros del polinizador de T. stramineum son los primeros en obtenerse y documentarse para esta orquídea.
