Palavras-Chave: Aprendizagem Ativa, Taxa de Reprovação, Evasão Escolar ABSTRACTThe failure rate in engineering courses, considered high basic education, is around forty percent. In the academic literature there are debates about its causes, such as gaps in the knowledge of mathematics, low student interest, teaching methods with low stimulus for learning, ignorance about learning techniques, among others. In this context, this work seeks to present and discuss the diagnosis of these causes and the application of active learning methods in classes with more than 100 students. New pedagogical practices are believed to help improve student performance. These practices were applied in the Tutoria-SOS Calouros project. Its main objective was to contribute to an increase in the approval rate in the discipline in which the project was carried out. The results indicate that the objectives were achieved, since there was a reduction in the failure and dropout rates.
