ResumoEste trabalho objetivou avaliar o desempenho de mudas de Enterolobium contortisiliquum produzidas com diferentes substratos em uma área desertificada no sul do Piauí. Para tanto, foram plantadas 75 mudas de Enterolobium contortisiliquum, utilizando espaçamento de 2 x 2 m e covas com dimensões de 40 x 40 cm, em uma área degradada por mineração em processo de desertificação há pelo menos 80 anos. Foram utilizados quinze tratamentos e cinco repetições por tratamento em delineamento inteiramente casualizado sob diferentes tipos e doses de substratos: composto orgânico de lixo urbano, bagana de carnaúba e casca de arroz carbonizada adicionados a amostras de subsolo de Latossolo Amarelo para compor cinco diferentes proporções de cada substrato: subsolo (%): 0:100; 20:80; 40:60; 60:40; 80:20. Os três substratos orgânicos testados influenciaram significativamente, proporcionando um melhor desenvolvimento das mudas de Enterolobium contortisiliquum em comparação com a testemunha, sem adição de nenhuma fonte orgânica. Os substratos bagana de carnaúba e composto orgânico de lixo urbano foram os substratos recomendados para produção de mudas para recuperação de áreas em desertificação no Piauí.Palavras-chave: Semiárido. Recuperação áreas degradadas. Leguminosa. IntroduçãoA desertificação no Brasil concentra-se principalmente na Região Nordeste em virtude da degradação do solo e da cobertura florestal (BRASIL, 2007). O extrativismo vegetal e mineral, o superpastejo das pastagens nativas ou cultivadas e o uso agrícola por culturas que expõem os solos aos agentes erosivos são as principais causas dos processos de desertificação que atingem a Região Nordeste (GALINDO et al., 2008).
