A tense epidemiological situation and accelerated digitalization have shifted the focus of particular markets and the entire economy towards developing network relationships. In contrast to traditional industry markets, networks have a number of specific features, and measuring them is a crucial research objective. The paper develops an integrated algorithm that allows assessing the network characteristics of the market. The methodological framework includes a set of strategic management theories, which are dominated by the network (relational) approach. The methodological tools embrace a system of indicators generalized in the form of graph theory. The object of the study is the network of tourism services of the Russian Federation, which covers more than 10 types of economic activity. The authors propose calculating indicators of the macro-level (for the entire network) and the micro-level (for specific network nodes). Estimates of the structure, relationships, clustering and other parameters of the tourism services market in Russia testifies to its network nature, value co-creation by all network nodes, significant clustering and the presence of stable flows. Further studies will be concentrating on economic characteristics of the network relationships in the market.
Social capital is a key factor in corporate sustainability in the ecosystem era. Analysis of the theoretical background reveals that social capital can function at all levels of economy – from the individual to the state. Therefore, social capitalis on the one hand an independent resource generating income. On the other hand, social capital provides access to the ecosystem actors’ resources.Oftentimes stakeholders underestimate social capital because of its intrinsic “public good” quality and limit investment in it. The ecosystem social capital structure includes several dimensions. The elements of each dimension are applied to strengthen the performance of corporate sustainability indicators.
The article is devoted to the development of an original methodology for measuring the social capital of an organization with suppliers. The methodological basis of the study is a combination of the theory of social capital and the network approach. The research methods are structural and economic analysis and survey. The author's methodology for assessing social capital is based on a consistent assessment of its three components: structural, relational and cognitive. The approbation of the proposed methodological tools was carried out in the tourist organization of the Sverdlovsk region. The portfolio of relationships with suppliers was evaluated. The proposed methodology is universal and testifies to the influence of social capital on the efficiency of business.
There has been a shift in the management of organizations from separation to networking among market participants. Social capital has a significant role among the enforcing mechanisms in specific markets. The study assesses the impact of the level of social capital on the effectiveness of a network-based organization. The methodological framework of the research includes a set of neoinstitutional theories and strategic management, among which the key ones are the theories of networks, social capital, and transaction costs. Research methods in the theoretical part of the paper are synthesis, typology, and content analysis. The information base of the study is a survey and statistical reporting of 101 tourist organizations of the Russian Sverdlovsk region for 2017–2020. We identify structural, relational, and cognitive components of an organization's social capital and establish the impact of the components of social capital on the growth rate of revenue and the growth rate of profitability of sales in Russian tourism for two (2017–2019) and three (2017–2020) years. There are positive and negative effects of the social capital impact in the organization. The social structure (structural component of social capital) and behavioral practices (relational and cognitive components) ensure the sustainability and growth of the business. However, neglecting market-based transaction management mechanisms risks reducing the growth of network «embeddedness» and the organization's performance.
