One of a plant that is usually used as a green roadside plant in the urban area is mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla K.). The influence of environmental pollution in plants can be seen from stomata in the leaves. This study was aimed to determine the characteristic of the mahogany leaf stomata in a polluted environment. The observed characteristics were a type of stomata, density and distribution stomata. The research was conducted in March to July 2019 in the Botanical Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Science of Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Padang. Samples were collected on Prof. Dr. Hamka street and controls were collected at Bung Hatta Forest Parks. The method of stomata observation was a replica method. The type of stomata found was anomocytic. The difference in stomata density in both locations was significant. The stomata density on Jl. Prof. Dr. Hamka was higher than that of Bung Hatta Forest Parks. Stomata of mahogany were found on the lower part of the leaf or also called hypostomatic distributed.
Ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.) is a type of plant that is widely planted on the roadside of urban areas that functions as a green plant. The response from green plants exposed to pollutants originating from motorized vehicles can be seen from the leaf stomata. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of the stomata of Ketapang leaves in areas with different environmental conditions. The parameters observed were density and stomata distribution. The sample was taken in Bung Hatta Forest Park and on the edge of Prof. Dr. Hamka streets. Observation of stomata using preparations with replica or mold method. The results showed that there were significant differences in the stomata density of Ketapang leaves in both locations. Stomata density on Prof. Dr. Hamka street is higher than the Bung Hatta Forest Park. The average density of the stomata of Ketapang leaves in Bung Hatta Forest Park is 132738.09/mm2 while at the edge of Prof. Dr. Hamka street is 232142.85/mm2. The distribution of stomata of Ketapang leaves in both locations showed no difference, i.e. they were of the hypostomatic type (stomata were only found on the lower surface of leaves).
Water spinach is well known by our society as a green vegetable that has a high vitamin mineral content at a low price and is easy to obtain and its cultivation is also relatively easy. This character supports the development as a potential horticultural crop commodity to be developed. The main source of vitamins is leafy green vegetables. Leaf green vegetables can be cultivated non-hydroponically and hydroponically. In vegetables there is beta-carotene which is the initial form of vitamin A so it is called pro vitamin A or provit A. Provit A is found in leafy green vegetables such as water spinach. The objectives of this study were: To compare the nutritional content of water spinach cultivated hydroponically and non-hydroponically. This research was conducted at the Wire House Biology Laboratory, Padang State University in May - July 2020. This research is a descriptive study. The analysis that will be carried out in this study are: Nutritional content of kale. The research steps that will be carried out are: preparation of hydroponic kale samples obtained from the West Sumatra hydroponic community in Alai and non-hydroponic kale obtained from the Padang Raya market, analysis of nutrient content using spectrophotometric methods and data analysis. From the research that has been done, it is found that the nutritional content of water spinach cultivated non-hydroponically is higher than that of water spinach cultivated hydroponically.
Pickles are made from a mixture of chunks of pineapple, cucumber and carrot with addition of 2.5 percent salt, 2.5% sugar and 2.5% cayenne papper. Pickles are served as a side dish at restaurants, which serve fried foods or meats such as mutton, soto and fried rice. Besides the unique taste of pickles, a mixture of salty, sweet and spicy, pickles also have benefits for maintaining cholesterol levels in the body. Cholesterol levels in the body can be lowered by Lactic Acid Bacteria. Lactic Acid bacteria, especially the genus Lactobacillus, are part of the normal flora in the human digestive tract, and is a probiotic that can have beneficial effects on health. This research aims to know the characteristics of LAB originated pickles. Tools and materials used consist of pineapple pickles, cucumber and carrots fermentation. LAB isolation from pickles done in fermentation and then plant to specific medium with pour plate method, then identified microscopically. The results obtained from this study were 9 isolate LAB from suerkraut, its caracteristics are negative catalase test.
