A review of Pterophoridae of Malawi is presented; 96 species from 35 genera and five subfamilies are recorded. Fourteen species are described as new: Agdistis nyasa Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Platyptilia mugesse Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Stenoptilia juniper Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Sphenarches mulanje Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp.nov., Marasmarcha lamborni Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Arcoptilia malawica Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Apoxyptilus uzumarus Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Gypsochares murphy Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Crassuncus livingstoni Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Hellinsia namizimu Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Hellinsia сhewa Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Picardia leza Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Picardia raymondi Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov., Picardia tumbuka Kovtunovich & Ustjuzhanin sp. nov. New combinations are established for six species: Marasmarcha bengtssoni (Gielis, 2009) comb. nov.; Marasmarcha locharcha (Meyrick, 1924) comb. nov.; Marasmarcha rubriacuta (Gielis, 2009) comb. nov.; Procapperia insomnis (Townsend, 1956) comb. nov.; Crassuncus ecstaticus (Meyrick, 1932) comb. nov.; Crassuncus colubratus (Meyrick, 1909) comb. nov. For Stenoptilia viettei Gibeaux, 1994, Sphenarches bifurcatus Gielis, 2009, Crassuncus ecstaticus (Meyrick, 1932) images of the male genitalia are presented for the first time, for Marasmarcha bengtssoni (Gielis, 2009), and Stenodacma cognata Gielis, 2009 female genitalia are illustrated for the first time. Species of wide pantropical or cosmopolitan distribution are not reported as new for the fauna of Malawi.  However, 65 species of Pterophoridae are reported for the fauna of Malawi for the first time.  One of them, Stenoptilia viettei Gibeaux, 1994, described from Madagascar, is reported for continental Africa for the first time.

Mount Cameroon, SW Cameroon, has already been described as a unique hotspot of the many-plumed moth (Lepidoptera, Alucitidae), with their local diversity unrivalled in the entire Afrotropics. We confirm its importance with description of seven new species: Alucita bakweri Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, sp. nov., Alucita jana Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, sp. nov., Alucita bakingili Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, sp. nov., Alucita tatjana Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, sp. nov., Alucita zuza Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, sp. nov., Alucita deja Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, sp. nov., and Alucita bokwango Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, sp. nov. These descriptions have raised the known local diversity of many-plumed moth species on Mount Cameroon to 22, i.e., over a quarter of the known Afrotropical biodiversity of this group. This study also emphasises the great conservation importance of the area.

The faunal review of Pterophoridae species is given for the fauna of Sierra Leone for the first time the type localities and world distribution (with new data) are specified. The information on the collected materials is given. Eleven species, previously unknown for this territory – Ochyrotica africana, Platyptilia farfarella, Bipunctiphorus dimorpha, Stenoptilodes taprobanes, Sphenarches erythrodactylus, Exelastis pumilo, E. tenax, E. vuattouxi, Hellinsia madecasseus, Pterophorus albidus and P. lampra – are added to the two known Pterophoridae species of Sierra Leone (Megalorhipida leucodactylus and Pterophorus candidalis).

Basing on the examination of new material on many-plumed moths from Tanzania, four new species have been discovered: Alucita agassizi Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich sp. nov., A. iringiensis Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich sp. nov., A. snezhinka Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich sp. nov. and A. tanzanica Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich sp. nov. They are described and compared with the closest species. The diagnostic characters for each new taxon are specified. The genitalia are described and illustrated, images of the adults are provided. Data on many-plumed moths previously unknown for Tanzania are given. Two species, A. seychellensis (Fletcher 1910) and A. malawica (Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich, 2016) are reported from Tanzania for the first time.

Pterotopteryx spilodesma (Meyrick, 1908) is reliably indicated for the fauna of the Sakhalin Island for the first time. The photos of female adult and genitalia are provided.
