The aim of this study was to characterize the sociodemographic conditions and patterns of crack use among women. A descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach was performed in January 2012, using semi-structured interviews with 16 women who use or used crack, and were enrolled in the Damage Reduction Strategy of the municipality of Pelotas, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were analyzed using the thematic content analysis. A group of young women was identified with low levels of education and income, which perform informal labor activities and have at least one child. The pattern of crack use among these women was identified as the "binge" type, interfering with daily activities, and characterizing the group of women as abusive users. The pattern of crack use among the women, and its relation to issues of gender, pointed to the production of new insertions and discourses, bringing into question pre-defined behaviors in society.DESCRIPTORS: Drug users. CraCk Consumption and tuberCulosis: an integrative review This article aimed to verify the scientific production regarding the consumption of crack and its favoring in the occurrence of tuberculosis (TB), identifying the main approach adopted in these publications and describing the main results of the studies found. It is an integrative review in the database of PUBMED, LILACS and SCIELO portal. The found articles have the following main approaches: the profile and behavior of users, the relationship between TB and drug use, and health strategies presented for the control of TB in these individuals.

Objective: to evaluate the cognitive state of elderly people under outpatient care; investigate the association betweenthe cognitive state and the socio-demographic variables, health conditions, number of medications and adhesion to thetreatment. Methods: this is a cross-sectional, exploratory, and descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, conductedwith 107 elderly people undergoing outpatient care in a university hospital in the south of Brazil. The following variableswere used: gender, age, marital status, income, schooling, occupation, preexisting noncommunicable diseases, number andtype of prescribed medications, adhesion, mini mental state examination and cognitive status. Data were analyzed throughinferential and descriptive statistics. Results: The prevalence of cognitive deficit was of 42.1% and had a statisticallysignificant connection with schooling, income, marital status, hypertension and cardiopathy. Conclusion: nurses canintervene to avoid the increase of cognitive deficit through an assessment of the elderly people, directed to facilitativestrategies to soften this deficit.

Este estudo objetivou conhecer as consequências relacionadas ao consumo de crack entre mulheres e motivações para o abandono da droga. Trata-se de estudo qualitativo, descritivo e exploratório, realizado com 11 mulheres ex-usuárias de crack, através de entrevista semiestruturada. Os principais resultados foram o rompimento de laços afetivos, familiares e com o meio social, além de perdas materiais. Quanto ao que motivou o abandono da droga, foi destacada a maternidade, o afastamento das áreas de risco e a prática religiosa. Assim, sugere-se que a assistência prestada pelos serviços de saúde deve ser repensada, na intenção de valorizar a singularidade da pessoa, considerando a complexidade desse fenômeno.

RESUMO Objetivo: verificar a prevalência de adesão à terapêutica medicamentosa entre idosos em atendimento ambulatorial e se há associação entre tal adesão e fatores demográficos, socioeconômicos e condições de saúde. Método: estudo exploratório, descritivo, transversal, quantitativo, realizado nos ambulatórios de um hospital universitário no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Participaram 107 idosos, selecionados por conveniência, que responderam a três instrumentos de coleta de dados. Realizou-se análise estatística descritiva e inferencial. Resultados: a prevalência de adesão foi de 86,9%. Houve associação estatisticamente significante entre a variável adesão e receber orientações do médico sobre como fazer uso dos medicamentos e apresentar reação adversa. Conclusão: é importante que os enfermeiros conheçam a prevalência de adesão aos medicamentos e os fatores a ela relacionados para melhor planejamento de intervenções que promovam o sucesso terapêutico.
