Objective: To identify the clinical evolution of dengue in pediatric patients. Methodology: The present study is an integrative literature review, which consists of broader methodological approaches among reviews. Thus, the following steps were taken: 1- Elaboration of the guiding question; 2- Literature sampling; 3- Data collection; 4- Critical analysis of the included studies; 5- Discussion of the results; 6- Presentation of the review/conclusion. Therefore, it was possible to structure the guiding question: “What clinical evolution do pediatric patients present when they are diagnosed with dengue?”. With therefore, 64 studies were presented, which underwent analysis of abstracts and eligibility criteria. Then, the quantitative of nine articles was selected to compose the corpus of analysis of eligible articles. Results and Discussion: It is necessary to predict the time of progression of moderate to severe dengue disease in children. Vascular leakage, manifested by clinical fluid accumulation and blood hematocrit concentration are important manifestations and are predictive of a reduced time to progress to severe dengue. Their findings imply the need for greater surveillance and complementation of other studies of clinical outcomes of dengue. Final Considerations: It is noticeable that this disease is configured as a major emerging and reemerging disease today, being essential for early diagnosis, timely treatment and death prevention. Thus, according to the studies, there is a gap with regard to adequate notifications in pediatrics, in the same way that there is a gap in the detailing of deaths in children who are victims of dengue.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
