The study of molecular properties has become a powerful tool in the analysis of several types of chemical and physical processes, such as: development of new materials, catalysts systems, excited molecular systems, among many others. To analyze these properties, the theoretical point of view, the most promising avenue has been via the Quantum Mechanics equations. However, the analytical resolution for many electrons molecular systems is not feasible resulting in the need for approaches that above this problem. Currently, the most promising methods in the description of molecular systems are Hartree -Fock and Density Functional Theory. These methods will be described in detail in this paper with main goal of describe the molecular properties. Will be addressed, a correction method for binding energy calculation due to the basis set superposition error (BSSE), known as Counterpoise method.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
