El uso de la Escala de Wells es una herramienta clave para categorizar y realizar un manejo apropiado, sin caer en el uso de exámenes no necesarios ni costosos, el uso eficaz de los anticoagulantes parenterales y la warfarina han permitido una disminución de la incidencia de complicaciones graves en estos pacientes.
El feocromocitoma es un tumor neuroendocrino productor de catecolaminas, este tumor genera graves repercusiones en distintos sistemas del cuerpo. La administración de fármacos como la fenoxibenzamina, beta bloqueadores y calcio antagonistas pueden lograr una estabilidad hemodinámica y evitar la muerte de muchos pacientes.
La enfermedad diverticular, comprende un espectro de manifestaciones y situaciones clínicas distintas, entre ellas, la diverticulosis asintomática, la enfermedad diverticular dolorosa y la diverticulitis. La diverticulitis ocurre cuando las herniaciones de mucosa y submucosa del colon, también llamados pseudodivertículos, sufren de un proceso inflamatorio y desarrollan una amplia variedad de síntomas que comprende: el dolor abdominal, fiebre, náuseas vómitos, hasta el sangrado digestivo; desencadenando desde un cuadro autolimitado hasta la presencia de signos de respuesta inflamatoria sistémica y muerte. En los estudios más recientes y guías terapéuticas se distingue cuáles pacientes se ven favorecidos del tratamiento médico o quirúrgico.
