Na região Amazônica, cidades como Santarém, no Estado do Pará, Brasil, ainda carecem de Estações de Tratamento de Água para atender toda a população. Nesses locais, medidas domiciliares de desinfecção da água são importantes para preservar a potabilidade e evitar efeitos indesejáveis na saúde. Este estudo avaliou experimentalmente o efeito das medidas domiciliares na eliminação de Escherichia coli em amostras de água. As técnicas avaliadas para esse trabalho foram: (i) hipoclorito de sódio 2,5%; (ii) fervura; (iii) filtro de cerâmica; e (iv) exposição solar. Foram testadas amostras, combinando-se diferentes concentrações de E. coli (entre 3 e 100 unidades formadoras de colônias/100mL). Os resultados mostraram que as medidas domiciliares de desinfecção foram eficazes na eliminação da E. coli, com exceção do filtro de cerâmica, cujas amostras de água, mesmo após a filtragem, apresentaram-se positivas para o crescimento da bactéria. Considerando que a distribuição da água tratada não chega à maior parte da população que reside em Santarém e em áreas periurbanas, como em comunidades quilombolas e ribeirinhas, o uso das medidas como hipoclorito de sódio 2,5%, fervura e exposição solar poderão favorecer a promoção da saúde e diminuir a ocorrência de surtos de doenças diarreicas veiculadas pela água.
RESUMO O abastecimento de água em Santarém é favorecido pela a ocorrência do aquífero Alter do Chão, cuja captação da água é realizada por poços e distribuída sem tratamento para a população. A expansão urbana acelerada e a falta de serviços de saneamento básico, vem comprometendo a qualidade da água, o que poderá acarretar implicações para a saúde. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade microbiológica e físico-química da água de consumo em Santarém e as implicações para a saúde. Selecionou-se 30 poços domiciliares e coletou-se 60 amostras de água durante a estação seca e chuvosa. Os valores foram comparados com as recomendações da Portaria 2914/11 do Ministério da Saúde e verificado diferenças estatísticas nos parâmetros obtidos entre as estações. A maior parte dos parâmetros avaliados estiveram em concordância com a legislação, entretanto, valores de pH apontaram água ácida o que poderá acarretar perturbações gástricas e intestinais nos consumidores. Em 33% e 40% das amostras durante a estação seca e chuvosa, respectivamente, apresentaram nitrato elevado, demostrando deficiências sanitárias. Em 37% das amostras coletadas durante a estação seca e 33% durante a chuvosa apresentaram concentrações superiores ao recomendado de alumínio, sendo que estudos tem demonstrado uma relação ainda em debate entre exposição crônica ao alumínio e doenças neurológicas. Não houve diferenças significantes entre os parâmetros nas estações analisadas. Conclui-se que a água consumida nos domicílios, apresenta-se com alguns parâmetros de qualidade em desacordo, evidenciando que a população está exposta a riscos microbiológicos e químicos através do seu consumo.
A água utilizada em serviços de hemodiálise passa por um sistema de tratamento a fim de garantir que os parâmetros microbiológicos e físico-químicos estejam adequados e proporcionem segurança ao paciente. Este trabalho avaliou a qualidade da água antes e após esta passar por sistema de tratamento em dois serviços (A e B) de hemodiálise em Santarém. Foram coletadas amostras de água em três pontos: Ponto 1 (P1) após saída do poço, Ponto 2 (P2) na saída do tratamento e Ponto 3 (P3) na máquina de hemodiálise. Testes microbiológicos e físicoquímicos foram realizados e os resultados mostraram que não houve crescimento de coliformes totais e Escherichia coli nas amostras. No serviço A, houve contaminação por bactérias heterotróficas em 87% das amostras, destas,27% ocorreram no P3. O pH mostrou-se menor que 6,0 no P1 nos dois serviços, normalizando os seus valores no P3. No serviço A, concentrações superiores ao recomendado de alumínio e nitrato foram verificadas em 100% das amostras coletadas no P1, os valores foram normalizados na saída do tratamento (P2). A pesquisa demonstrou que, para os parâmetros estudados, a qualidade da água, após passar por sistema de tratamento, é satisfatória, com exceção das bactérias heterotróficas no serviço A.
