SYSTEMS INTEGRATION CROP-LIVESTOCK-FOREST (ICLF) -EXPERIENCES IN BRAZILABSTRACT: The integrated crop-livestock-forest systems are sustainable and the choice of the appropriate system to a given locality depends on the soil and climatic conditions and the availability of infrastructure for input supply, storage and transportation of production. Productivity and profitability are three times higher for beef cattle and 10-30% for grain crops relative to traditional production systems. On the other hand it is observed in more complex systems (using the tree component) animal welfare increase and mitigation of greenhouse gases. Keywords: animal welfare, meat, corn, soybean, carbon sequestration.
Dairy cattle farming is of great economic and social importance in all Brazilian's regions. Parasites can reduce milk productivity, especially the tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. This study consisted of a questionnaire answered by 40 milk producers in the northwestern region of the State of São Paulo. The aim was to ascertain how these producers controlled ticks and other parasites. Very many of them knew nothing about the biological cycle of the cattle tick or about strategic control or acaricide efficacy tests. The majority (87.5%) controlled ticks at a high frequency, without technical criteria and care to apply the acaricide. Spraying was the most used mode of acaricide application (95%) and endectocides were used by 45%. Cattle tick fever was the harm most associated with ticks (87.5%) followed closely by screwworm (77.5%). However, 65% were satisfied with their tick control. About the control of others parasites, all dewormed at least twice a year their animals; 65% were controlling horn fly; 40% had problems with screwworm. The interviewers had in general good level of education and the farms generally exhibited a high degree of technology for milk production on pasture because half of them received technical assistance frequently. Keywords: Cattle, milk, production, questionnaire, sustainable, tick. A maioria (82,5%) criava gado mestiço.
Low pH (5.2) decreased nodule number and acetylene reduction. Aluminium further depressed those parameters in the Rhizobium leguminosarum-Pisum sativum associations examined. In the Al-treated plants nodule formation by strains 128C53 and 128C30 was not affected by 3 or 15 and 30 or 60 #M AI, respectively, as compared with the number of nodules on plants grown at pH 5.2 in the absence of A1. However, improved nodulation rates by those strains did not enhance plant dry weight or reduced nitrogen content. No differences in nitrogenase activity were found among strains of nodulating plants grown at the same aluminium level. These results suggest that Al-ions affected specifically nitrogenase activity and that this effect was primarily responsible for the reduction in plant growth.
The response of Brachiaria brizantha var. Xaraés to the application of dolomitic lime (0; 800; 1,600; 2,400 and 3,200 kg/ha; PRNT = 100%), broadcasted and incorporated into the soil 2 months before planting, was evaluated under greenhouse with natural conditions of light and temperature. The soil was a Yellow Latosol, with clayey texture (pH = 5.5; Al = 1.5 cmolC/dm3; Ca + Mg = 1.7 cmolC/dm3; P = 2.0 mg/kg; and K = 59 mg/kg). A randomized block design was used with three replications. At establishment, a uniform application was made of 40 mg/dm3 of nitrogen (urea), 22 mg/dm3 of P2O5 (triple superphosphate), and 40 mg/dm3 of K2O (potassium chloride). The application of lime increased dry matter (DM) production significantly as well as the nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium concentrations in the plant. Maximum DM yield and phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium contents were obtained with the application of 3,087; 2,300; 3,123 and 3,111 kg lime/ha, respectively. Critical internal levels of calcium and magnesium related to 80% maximum DM production were estimated in 4.17 and 3.35 g/kg, respectively.
