We huve cloned and analysed the second mouse ~HC-finked proteason~c subunit, dcs~gnated MCI3. which appcqrs to be homoio~ou~ to the hun~n RlNGlO ptotuasomc protein. The Isolated cDNA has an GRF encoding a protein of 276 amino acids with a molecular weight of ca. 30 kDa. Scqucnce alignment rcvcals that the subunit MCI3 and several other mammalian protcasomc subunits arc encoded by a second protcasomc gene family, This second gene family encodes subunits of the /%typc, reveals striking sequence similarities with the B-subunit of archacbaacrial proteasomcs and is rclatcd to, but distinct from, the genes encoding the so-called a-type subunits.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
