The Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) creates challenges for Arabic learning at Indonesian Islamic Colleges. The limitations of the language learning process during the pandemic caused various problems. In addition, using learning strategies requires special planning related to differences in face-to-face learning processes into learning with online systems. Arabic is a compulsory subject that helps students acquire communication skills in a foreign language. This research describes students' perceptions of Arabic online learning at a public Islamic college in Malang. It also examines the strategies for learning during the COVID-19 emergency. The study uses a qualitative approach for data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. Research samples were taken from students in semester 2 nd to semester 6 th with varying abilities. The data analysis is carried out using triangulation techniques in several steps, and involves collection, reduction, and conclusion. The results showed that students perceive Arabic online learning to be less effective. Some factors that do not support online learning such as the lack of instructions given by lecturers, limited internet connection, lack of internal motivation of students, lack of discussion hours. Several strategies are used, including discussions, lectures, singing, presentations, studying literature, and writing. The use of Arabic learning resources in online media illustrates the process of independent learning for students. The results provide input for integrating all components of learning holistically and variedly for students to remain motivated irrespective of the condition. This study recommends other researchers to examine and improve what skills teachers need to have when learning online and efforts to increase student interest in the language learning process with an online system.
The success of learning Arabic is largely determined by the quality of interaction in learning. This article aims to describe (1) Increasing speaking skills through Arabic learning interactions, (2) Increasing cooperation through learning interactions, and (3) Increasing solidarity through learning interactions. So far, this aspect has been neglected in existing studies. This research approach is qualitative with the type of case study research. The research data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis starts from data collection to concluding. The results showed that the improvement of speaking skills was carried out by selecting interesting topics, using familiar vocabulary among students, and giving them motivation. In terms of increasing cooperation, this is done by giving joint assignments, joint corrections, making videos, and playing roles. Meanwhile, in the context of increasing solidarity, the activities carried out are by instilling a sense of brotherhood, group work, and giving responsibility to help each other.
Abstract:The State Islamic University (UIN) of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is one of State Islamic University in Indonesia have been successfully developed Arabic. Since 1997 UIN Malang has started to require all new students to study Arabic intensively in an institution called Arabic Intensive Program (PKPBA) for a full first year. In the 20th of his age, with all the achievements and accomplishments that have been reached, the Arabic Intensive Program must be improved and developed. This article discusses about problems that faced in developing Arabic, at the same time look for ways to improve the next process of learning Arabic. From the analysis this article found that there are number of problems in Arabic development, including lecturer, student, textbook and management. After all, this article offered some solutions to solve the problem, (1) the lecturer should improve pedagogical quality through training, workshop and study, (2) always motivate student to learn Arabic, (3) Arabic Intensive Program need textbook that relevant to need of students, and (4) Arabic Intensive Program should make restoration and improvement in management. Learning the interpretation of the Qur'an more precisely on thematic interpretation material, still faces obstacles in the field, including not being able to produce output that can use interpretation well. The purpose of this research is to understand: (1) the application of a communicative approach in learning interpretation of Qur’an at Al Jihad Islamic Boarding School Surabaya for female, (2) the obstacles faced by teachers in applying a communicative approach in learning interpretation of Qur’an at Al Jihad Islamic Boarding School Surabaya fro female. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. Research data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using Miles and Huberman's model, are: (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data presentation, (4) concluding. The results showed that the application of the communicative approach through several steps, there are: short dialogues, exercises, questions, communicative expressions, analysis and concluding, then evaluation. And also there several obstacles in the application of the communicative approach, it is: the lack of confidence in students in expressing the results of thematic interpretations orally in Arabic, there are difficulties in developing the delivery of some material into a communicative approach, and the last is the lack of time available for learning interpretation of holy Qur’an. The conclusion of this study shows that a communicative approach is needed in learning interpretation of holy Qur’an on thematic interpretation material to be more effective.
This study aims to (1) describe the idea of an integrated curriculum in higher education, (2) depict its implementation at the university level, and (3) find out the impact of the curriculum on university development. This research used a qualitative approach. It employed a literature study. The researchers gathered the data from book reviews and related journals. Data analysis involved collecting the data, sorting, presenting, and drawing conclusions. The findings showed that (1) the idea of an integrated curriculum was depicted in a tree-shaped scientific structure; (2) the integrated curriculum was done by requiring all students to learn Arabic and English, as well as providing opportunities for all students to memorize the Quran and practice Islamic life; (3) integrated curriculum contributed to accelerating the development and internationalization of institutions.
