Zusammenfassung Nach dem Wirtschaftsaufschwung der sechziger Jahre folgte die Entwicklung hin zu einer "Wegwerfgesellschaft". Dadurch steigen die Müllmengen nach wie vor rasant und somit auch die damit verbundenen Entsorgungsproblematiken. Zu den wesentlichen Herausforderungen zählen die begrenzten Deponievolumen, die Ressourcenknappheit sowie die negativen Umweltauswirkungen. Obwohl die Abfallwirtschaft einen sehr wichtigen und durchaus beträchtlichen Wirtschaftszweig darstellt, wurden die Beschäftigungseffekte in Statistiken oder volkswirtschaftlichen Berechnungen bislang vernachlässigt. Diese Arbeit untersucht anhand unterschiedlicher Modelle das Potenzial der direkten Beschäftigungseffekte in der Behandlung von Restmüll. Die idealisierten Modelle stützen sich auf grundlegende abfallwirtschaftliche Systeme, beginnend von der ungeordneten Deponierung hin zur verbesserten getrennten Sammlung. Neben dem Per-Inhalte dieses Beitrages wurden hauptsächlich aus der Masterarbeit des Co-Autors Altendorfer entnommen.
