Anahtar kelimeler: Hasta güvenliği, hemşirelik öğrencileri, tıbbi hatalar ABSTRACT Introduction: This study was conducted to determine the knowledge level of nursing students about patient safety. Materials and Methods: The universe of the study consisted of second, third and fourth grade students studying in the nursing department of a university. In the sample selection, it is aimed to reach the whole universe. At the end of the study, 79% of the universe was reached and the study was completed with 551 students. Data were collected by questionnaire form. Ethics committee approval, institutional permission and written consent of individuals were obtained. Results: It was determined that most of the students (77.3%) had insufficient knowledge about patient safety. It was found that most of them did not have any opinion about the practices to prevent medical errors (59.7%) and the way to be followed when errors were encountered (44.8%). Although 89.3% of the participants stated that planning, implementing, and evaluating the risks related to patient safety had a nursing role, only 24.7% of them considered supporting the established patient safety practices as nursing role in patient safety. Conclusion: As a result, it was determined that most of the students had insufficient knowledge about the roles of the nurse in patient safety, applications to prevent medical errors and the way to be followed when medical errors were encountered.
Integration of self-management into patient care has a place in patient-centered approach which is encouraging in achieving self-care and determinant of personal requirements. Individual focused approach is mentioned to result in better findings in directing patients to behavior changes. Efficiency of motivational interview on oncology has been shown in other studies which suggested that motivational interview can be applied in life style changes such as diet and exercise during cancer treatment process, that it is a cost-effective method for increasing the efficacy of monitorization programs, preventing and controlling cancer and may also be used as a "give up smoking" attempt for patients with cancer. The motivational interview method may be used in early diagnosis and treatment of cancer, in providing life style changes and in strengthening self-management of the patient.
