This study uncovers and emphasizes the moderating role of perceptions of organizational politics in consequences of burnout. This may help hospital managers and nurses to improve costs, efficiency, satisfaction and productivity.
Bu çalışmanın amacı iş yerinde liderliğin karanlık yüzünü oluşturan davranışların, bu davranışların çalışanlar üzerinde oluşturduğu etkilerin ve çalışanların bu davranışlara verdiği tepkilerin ne olduğunu ülkemiz bağlamında açığa çıkarmaktır. Araştırma verisi mülakat, odak grup görüşmesi ve gözlem yöntemleri kullanılarak toplanmış ve içerik analizi yöntemine uygun olarak analiz edilmiştir. Mülakatlar 9, odak grup görüşmesi ise 4 kişi ile yapılmıştır. Gözlem, açık ofis yerleşimli bir iş yerinde yapılmıştır. Katılımcılar araştırmacıların sosyal ağı içerisinden amaçlı örnekleme yöntemine göre belirlenmiştir. Analiz sonucunda karanlık liderliği oluşturan davranışlar; bezdirici, narsistik, samimiyetsiz ve zorbaca davranış temaları ile; karanlık liderliğin çalışanlar üzerindeki etkileri; psikolojik etkiler ve fizyolojik etkiler temaları ile, karanlık liderliğe verilen tepkiler ise; aktif tepkiler ve pasif tepkiler temaları ile açıklanmıştır. Araştırma bulguları yönetim ve organizasyon yazınına sağlanan katkılar ile uygulamaya dönük yansımaları açısından değerlendirilmiştir.
The aim of this research is to uncover whether nurses’ fear of contracting Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has resulted in stress-related presenteeism and burnout, and whether perceived organisational support is effective in dealing with both nurses’ fear of contracting COVID-19 and its undesired consequences. For this purpose, a cross-sectional and descriptive research has been conducted. The data are collected from 513 nurses working in Ankara, Turkey, through a questionnaire survey. Independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance test and partial least squares structural equation modelling technique are employed to analyse the data. Findings indicate that nurses fear infection and experience stress-related presenteeism and burnout considerably. However, they perceive slightly inadequate level of organisational support. Fear of infection has resulted in stress-related presenteeism and burnout. Stress-related presenteeism has mediated the relationship between fear of infection and burnout. Perceived organisational support has negatively related to fear of infection and its negative consequences. In this research, to our knowledge, for the first time, the burnout, stress-related presenteeism, fear of infection and perceived organisational support levels of nurses are compared according to the pandemic-related criteria. Besides, the mediating role of nurses’ stress-related presenteeism between their fear of contracting COVID-19 and burnout is discovered.
Leaders form the character and the nature of the organizations. In this respect ethical leaders may be the solution for organizations in corruption and employees in trouble. For this reason we treated ethical leadership as a healer, and analyzed its effects on intention to quit along with moderation effect of perceptions of organizational politics and mediation effect of organizational identification on this interaction. To that end, data were collected from 103 sales persons, who work at an international white good producing firm, in Ankara, Turkey through questionnaire. The data were analyzed with multifarious statistical techniques. The findings affirm healing effect of ethical leadership on intention to quit. In addition, as a new discovery, moderation effect of perceptions of organizational politics on healing effect of ethical leadership was found. Finally it was discovered that organizational identification and ethical leadership predict intention to quit separately.
