Bauen heißt transportieren. Eine übergeordnete logistische Planung und Koordination dieser Materialflüsse findet in der Baubranche bisher kaum statt - anders als in der stationären Industrie, die bereits in den 1980er Jahren die Bedeutung der Logistik erkannt hat. Der Begriff "Logistik" umfasst in diesem Kontext weit mehr als nur die reine Gestaltung des Materialflusses. Das Ziel ist die ganzheitliche Vernetzung und Synchronisation der Einzelprozesse zu einem durchgängigen Gesamtbauablauf. Dieser Ansatz erfordert die frühzeitige Integration der beteiligten Akteure, wobei insbesondere deren informatorische Vernetzung eine entscheidende Rolle spielt. Denn nur mit aktuellen Daten lassen sich Prozesse effektiv steuern und kontrollieren. In Kap. 5 werden Methoden und Vorgehensweisen aufgezeigt, wie eine solche unternehmensübergreifende Planung, Steuerung und Kontrolle baulogistischer Prozesse zukünftig ausgestaltet sein kann. Dabei wird ausführlich erläutert, wie der zielgerichtete Einsatz neuartiger Informations- und Kommunikations-Technologien (z. B. RFID, SCM-Systeme) den reibungslosen und schnellen Informationsfluss in allen Phasen des Bauprojektes unterstützen kann. Dabei werden nicht nur die Nutzenaspekte des Technologieeinsatzes detailliert erläutert, sondern auch auf die Herausforderungen und Schwierigkeiten bei der Implementierung sowie auf Möglichkeiten zur Verteilung der anfallenden Kosten eingegangen
