This study examines the involvement of interior design with the museum purpose in terms of education and recreation. The purpose of this study is to provide effective solutions in museum interior design to attract attention, education, and recreation to visitors and form the basis for future research. This research creates a design that forms a spatial experience, with a focus on cultural museums. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with three stages of triangulation (interviews, observations, and documents). The case study in this study is the East Java Cultural Museum because the phenomenon that occurs is that traditional culture has begun to erode due to the times, especially in East Java, and the absence of research on the interior design of cultural museums. This study shows that there are five aspects in supporting the creation of a visitor's space experience in the museum, including the atmosphere of the room, lighting, collection displays, storylines, and interactive media. These five aspects are united in an "Experience Design".
Since the enactment of the New Normal, many cafes have begun to be visited because human needs for social interaction bring them back to the public area, but they will look for a safe and comfortable environment. With so many activities taking place in the cafe, it is necessary to optimize the interior layout to meet service needs and comply with health protocols. The method used in this research is data collection method and writing method. The data collection method was carried out by direct observation and literature study. The writing method uses a comparative method that compares the presence of one or more variables in two or more different samples. The result of this research is a comparison of data regarding the interior layout of the cafe before and after the New Normal period. In general, the theme and space requirements are maintained, significant changes are seen in reducing the number of seating facilities, increasing the distance between visitors' tables, and checking the cleanliness of the cafe. These changes support the comfort of visitors while in the cafe because they have a sense of security by implementing proper health protocols. The interior layout must adapt to create a balance in the service process.
Science ininteriordesignhas been widely used by the community to add value and provide solutions to problems in interior space. One of them is the number of designers applying the concept of open planto provide space design solutions to feel spacious, feel bright, and make it possible to carry out activities simultaneously. However, there are several activities that cannot be carried out simultaneously such as privacy spaces, namely bathrooms, meeting rooms etc. With these needs, the privacy area is usually placed outside the open plan area so that the use of open plan in the interior does not experience development in the processing of interior space. Even though there are four fundamental ways of connecting several spaces, one of them is space within a space. By adapting, developing, combining and using relationships between spaces within a space, the concept of open plan can create attractive spaces and can fulfill building functions. In this study the method used is descriptive analysis, that is, by describing and analyzing the concept of space within a space that has been applied by famous building architects and designers into interior layouts. The benefit of this research is to provide an alternative to processing interior space in the open plan concept in order to create a variety of designs. The purpose of this study is to provide a new perspective in processing concepts from an open plan by applying space within a space to separate space functions so that designers can provide privacy space in public areas, (or vice versa) without changing the essence of the open plan concept
