O presente artigo pretende abordar a problemática litigiosa existente na fronteira entre os estados do Piauí e Ceará a parte do interesse de ambos estados pelos recursos naturais e potenciais energéticos e, em contrapartida, dos aspectos identitários que implicam na situação da população que reside na área afetada pela disputa. Desta maneira dialogamos como os interesses das unidades federativas se contrapõem aos sentimentos identitários das comunidades localizadas na fronteira entre os dois estados. Devido à situação atual do processo judicial, são apresentados alguns aspectos que demonstram o interesse do governo piauiense, motivado pelo potencial energético existente na região da Ibiapaba, principalmente no que confere à instalação de parques e usinas eólicas na região. Foi feito, através de uma análise geoetnografica das comunidades fronteiriças, uma análise de como a identidade cultural é um fator basilar para a decisão a ser tomada no Supremo Tribunal Federal, onde, não apenas a cartografia deve ser levada em conta, mas sim toda a construção da ocupação e das relações sociais que se desdobram nas comunidades localizadas entre os dois estados.
