Some previous research has reported the effectiveness of RME in improving students' problem solving ability and cognitive achievement. This quasi experimental research, therefore, aimed to investigate the difference in students' mathematics cognitive achievement after implementing RME and conventional learning. The controlled treatment consisted of mathematics learning with RME equipped with snake and ladder board game and conventional learning. Instrument measuring students' cognitive achievement was developed by the researcher and validated by some experts prior to the research. The results of the t-test confirmed the difference in students' cognitive achievement both of the experimental and control group. The students who were taught with RME achieved better than the students who were involved in conventional learning. This research finding has suggested that it is important for teachers to empower students' intellectual ability through RME and games in order that meaningful and contextual learning can be generated. It is recommended that future research will explore the effect of RME on students' attitude, problem-solving ability, learning interest, or other variables related to mathematics learning.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar peserta didik pada materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel melalui model pembelajaran flipped classroom di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 15 Ambon. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas VIII6 SMP Negeri 15 Ambon yang berjumlah 25 orang, jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus dengan 5 pertemuan. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui lembar observasi dan tes. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa setelah diberikan tindakan pada siklus I peserta didik yang mencapai ketuntasan sebanyak 6 orang dengan pencapaian 24%, dan pada siklus II diperoleh jumlah peserta didik yang mencapai ketuntasan 11 orang dengan pencapaian 44%, selanjutnya pada siklus III terjadi peningkatan yaitu diperoleh jumlah peserta didik yang mencapai ketuntasan 23 orang dengan pencapaian 92%. Dilihat hasil tes peserta didik dari siklus II dan siklus III maka telah terjadi peningkatan yaitu sebesar 48% dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran flipped classroom pada materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 15 Ambon
This study aims to determine the characteristics of students' metacognition in solving mathematical literacy problems. The metacognitive traits explored are related to awareness in planning, monitoring, and evaluating the design of the thinking process used. The research method used is a mixed-method (sequential explanatory), which uses quantitative research results to conduct qualitative research. The research subjects were 80 early semester students who took the literacy test and chose six respondents representing the upper, middle, and lower groups, with two people in each group to be interviewed. The results showed that the mathematical literacy skills of prospective teachers were at a low level. Metacognitive characteristics that appear in the low group are (1) realizing that the solution of strategy is not right but not improved; (2) planning to develop a settlement strategy, but are not sure, (3) do not carry out the re-check process, and (4) do not believe what is being thought and do not understand the concept. Metacognitive traits in the middle group are (1) aware of what they are thinking, (2) consciously plan various strategies to improve thinking accuracy, but do not always use these strategies, (3) tend to monitor the thinking process, and (4) show tendency to master the basic mathematical concepts of the problems at hand.The characteristics of metacognition in the high group during problem-solving are (1) Using various strategies to demonstrate or improve the accuracy of thinking (sketching, drawing), (2) Analyzing the problem before solving it, and (3)Understanding and mastering the mathematical concepts that underlie the problem which is given.
Ethnomathematics study of islands indigenous peoples in Maluku Province, Indonesia. Objectives: The aim of this study was implementation of a mathematics study in learning related to island communities' context in Maluku. Methods: This study used methods of exploration, documentation and literature study. Findings: Many local communities in the Maluku did not realize that all selling activities, handicraft, or woven are included in mathematics in the form of fractions or geometry. Conclusion: This study concluded that the activities of selling, weaving and crafting in the community display fraction and geometry patterns
Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan media pembelajaran mata kuliah desain grafis dan analisis real yang berbasis digital. Pembelajaran dengan media berbasis digital ini menggunakan pendekatan blended learning. Penelitian pengembangan mengacu pada model pengembangan Alessi dan Trolip yang terdiri atas fase perencanaan, desain, dan pengembangan. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa program studi pendidikan matematika Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Pattimura yang menawarkan mata kuliah desain grafis dan analisis real. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah angket untuk mengetahui hasil validasi ahli media dan ahli materi serta respons siswa terhadap media pembelajaran yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran berbasis digital layak untuk digunakan.
Comparison of problem based learning and realistic mathematics education to improve student academic performance. Objectives: The aim of this study was to see an increase in the academic performance of island students in Ambon City by applying the problem based learning (PBL) learning model and realistic mathematics education (RME). Methods: This research was in the form of a descriptive qualitative study with a case study approach and a sample of 116 students. Findings: There was a significant increase in student academic performance at each meeting and learning outcomes with PBL were higher than RME. Conclusion: The PBL model is more effective in increasing students' academic performance than RME because students were facilitated with onlinebased media in PBL when compared to RME, so that it can attract students' attention in learning and have a significant impact on student academic performance. Abstrak: Perbandingan pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan pendidikan matematika realistik untuk meningkatan performa akademik siswa. Tujuan:Adapun tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah melihat peningkatan prestasi akademik siswa kepulauan di Kota Ambon dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran problem based learning (PBL) dan realistic mathematics education (RME). Metode: Penelitian ini berupa studi kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus dan sampel penelitian sebanyak 116 siswa. Temuan: Terjadi peningkatkan yang cukup signifikan untuk performa akademik siswa pada setiap pertemuan dan hasil belajar dengan PBL lebih tinggi bila dibandingkan dengan RME. Kesimpulan: Model PBl lebih efektif dalam meningkatan performa akademik siswa dibandingkan dengan RME, hal ini karena pada PBL siswa difasilitasi dengan media berbasis online bila dibandingkan dengan RME, sehingga dapat menarik perhatian siswa dalam belajar dan berdampak signifikan pada prestasi akademik siswa.
Mathematics learning aims at improving the logical thinking skill in solving problems through a process of reasoning. In fact, learners found the learning materials of mathematics were complex. It can be seen from the understanding and skills of learners in solving mathematical problems involving the concept of numbers. One reason is that the materials are not associated with the reality of everyday life. Mechanistic mathematics learning approach would be meaningless and lead learners to saturation. The abstractness of mathematical objects can be approached through "real world" around the children. Through the reality of children's lives that cannot be separated from an everyday culture which shapes the children's experience, thus, through realistic mathematics learning, the concept of numbers can be explained to learners. Learning the concept of numbers, in this case, fractional numbers and the understanding of the value of place with Local Wisdom Based-Realistic Mathematics Approach (RMA) is said to be effective as the result of learning demonstrated by students taught using this approach is higher than those who are not taught by this approach. The analyses results of Teladan Elementary School show that the value of t = 4.9 is more than t table = 2.02 and significance probability of α = 0.00 is less than 0.05. In Elementary School of Latuhalat, the analysis shows that the value of α = 0.016 is less than the value of 0.05. Average teacher's response towards the aid used was 70% strongly agreed to indicator determined and 23% agreed to specified indicators. 80.4%, the application of teachers' lesson plan and 66% of students showed more than 75% activities indicators were accomplished. During the learning process, indirectly, learners' characters such as; discipline, cooperation, mutual help, courage, and intelligence were formed.
