Purpose
Despite the growing importance of digital innovation conceptualized as innovative digital solutions that enable digital transformation of businesses across industries, empirical study of factors related to digital innovation is still scant, creating a knowledge gap. To fill this gap, this paper aims to examine the effect of digital orientation and digital capability on digital innovation, and also the mediating effect of digital innovation on the link between organizational performance and digital orientation as well as digital capability.
Design/methodology/approach
This study tests a new conceptual framework using a survey data of 105 small to medium-sized IT firms in Malaysia and employing structural equation model (SEM) analysis from partial least square (PLS) approach.
Findings
The results show that digital orientation and digital capability have positive effect on digital innovation and also that digital innovation mediates the effect of technology orientation and digital capability on financial and non-financial performance.
Practical implications
The findings encourage the firms to take the opportunity of emerging digital technologies and digitalization trend in industries by being committed toward embracing new digital technologies and upgrading their digital capabilities to become innovation leaders and also to boost firms’ performance.
Originality/value
This study is one of the first studies that explain how emerging digital technologies can be leveraged to create innovative digital products and services and subsequently boost their business performance. It also fills the literature gaps related to driving factors of digital innovation and mediating role of digital innovation on the link between its driving factors and performance.
PurposeThe objective of this study is to gain more insight into Malaysian human resource management, in terms of its history and current HR practices. Also, this paper also intends to examine the impact of implementing HR practices on the overall organization's performance based on a sample of 217 Malaysian based companies.Design/methodology/approachData were collected via questionnaires from human resource managers and top executives responsible for the managing human resources in their respective organizations. A sample of 217 Malaysian firms participated in this study. Using SPSS, a regression analysis was used to measure the impact of human resource practices on organizational performance.FindingsThe key finding of this study is that HR practices do have a significant impact on the performance of Malaysian organizations. In a nutshell the results of this study suggest a positive association between HR practices and firm performance.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the understanding of how Malaysian companies perceive the importance of human resource practices on overall organizational performance. HR practitioners can use the findings to support the case for implementing HR practices in organizations.
Sustainability in education has continued to evolve, which in turn creates a research niche that is able to provide greater opportunities for interaction between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and their surroundings. Internationalization of higher education is one of the new forms of engagements in higher education for ensuring sustainability. This study seeks to understand the research in higher education internationalization on publication outcomes, co-authorships between authors and similar countries, and co-occurrences of author keywords. This can provide valuable opportunities in expanding collaborative networks to impart global perspectives into teaching, learning, and research development. For this purpose, a bibliometric analysis was carried out to identify a total of 1412 journal articles from between 1974 to 2020 using information taken from the Scopus database. The research wraps up similarities on the growth of research, with the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, China and Canada emerging as among the countries that publish the most. There is a growing popularity of the term ‘higher education internationalization’ as part of the global new trends of cross-cultural study in transnational education. Finally, this study calls for future research programs with a concern in developing the intercultural communication of graduate students for global competence skills towards sustainability of HEIs.
Handicraft is an important heritage that symbolise identity of a culture and country, which also brings economic values to nation. Hence it is crucial to study handicraft industry, which preserve and promote cultural heritage. This study focuses on handicraft industry in Vietnam, and strives to examine the external environment that shape the performance of industry, to analyse the current industry competition, and well as propose recommendations to practitioners. PEST Analysis was employed to examine external environment of handicraft industry in Vietnam. Next, Porter's Five Forces Framework was used to analyse the industry competition. Lastly, VRIO Framework was used to assess the competitiveness of Vietnam handicraft industry. Implications of study were discussed and recommendations are provided to market practitioners.
