Objective: to map the use of massage to relieve neonatal pain during procedures performed in Intensive Care Units. Methods: a scoping review conducted in 11 data sources, following the Joanna Briggs Institute recommendations. The question was: what is the knowledge about the use of massage to relieve pain in newborns during painful procedures in a neonatal intensive care unit? 12 studies were selected for the results. Results: therapeutic massage in newborns is positive in reducing the score on pain scales, decreasing heart and respiratory rates, increasing oxygen saturation, improvements in behavioral status, weight gain, neurological development, shorter crying time and performing the painful procedure. Conclusion: massage/reflexotherapy is effective in reducing neonatal pain in intensive care units, being performed on lower limbs, heel, back or at the procedure site, with light to moderate pressure and an average duration of five minutes.
Aim: identify the most frequent nursing diagnoses in patients with multiple sclerosis hospitalized in a neurological unit. Method: This is a cross-sectional, quantitative study, conducted in the period from January to August 2014 with 58 patients in a teaching hospital in northeastern Brazil, following the relevant steps: data collection through validated instrument; process analysis and validation in pairs according to the nursing diagnoses; and, finally, inferential analysis. Results: 30 nursing diagnoses were identified, the most common were: impaired physical mobility; activity intolerance, impaired urinary excretion; impaired memory; impaired pattern of sleep; self-care deficit for feeding; ineffective coping; constipation; sexual dysfunction and chronic pain. Conclusion: The most common diagnoses identified are in the fields of activity/rest, disposal and exchange coping/stress tolerance, perception/cognition, comfort and sexuality.
Número do registro RBR-639bff.
Introduction Childhood cancer affects approximately 600,000 children and adolescents worldwide, and chemotherapy is the main form of treatment. However, chemotherapy treatment causes feelings of fear and anxiety especially in the patient’s caregiver. Thus, strategies that help the health education process directed towards caregivers are essential for strengthening knowledge and reducing anxiety involved with the beginning of treatment. Objective To present a study protocol to evaluate the effect of a multimedia strategy compared to standard guidelines for acquiring knowledge and reducing anxiety among caregivers of children and adolescents with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods A randomized, controlled, single-blind, two-armed clinical trial will be carried out. Fifty-two caregivers of children and adolescents who will start chemotherapy will participate in the study, which will be randomly assigned into Experimental Group, which involves the evaluation of the effect of a multimedia strategy composed of a digital animation film about the chemotherapy process, used as tool for health education or into Control Group, which assesses the effects of standard guidelines, which are verbally provided. Two important moments will be considered to evaluate the results of the intervention (P1, and F1). The primary outcome includes reduced anxiety and the secondary outcome refers to the caregivers’ acquisition of knowledge about chemotherapy treatment. Expected results The results of this randomized clinical trial will have a positive impact on the participants’ knowledge acquisition, and will also contribute to reduce anxiety observed at the beginning of treatment related to the caregivers’ knowledge deficit. The level of knowledge between groups with anxiety before and after intervention will be compared, highlighting which intervention had the best effect. Objective to map the knowledge about the clinical findings, treatment and outcome of newborns and children infected with COVID-19. Methods a scoping review with search of eight databases and electronic search engine in April 2020. Results the 12 studies analyzed showed that the main clinical findings in this population were nasal congestion, fever, respiratory distress, diarrhea, fatigue, dry cough, increased C-reactive protein, leukopenia, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, elevated procalcitonin, bilateral ground-glass opacity, pulmonary consolidation, and pneumonia. Antivirals, respiratory support, immunomodulatory therapy, glucocorticoids, antibiotics and alpha interferon were used as treatment. The presence of a cure with hospital discharge is present in most cases. Final considerations most patients required hospitalization, but it evolved to cure. This study provided a greater scientific basis by showing clinical findings, treatment, and outcomes in neopediatric patients with COVID-19.
Objective To analyze in the scientific literature the effects of massage on pain relief in newborns submitted to puncture. Method Systematic review with meta-analysis performed in October 2020, using PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Scopus, Cochrane and Gale databases. Studies without time frame were included, which used massage as the main technique for relieving neonatal pain during puncture. Data were extracted using standardized forms and the synthesis of results occurred in a descriptive way. Results From the 12 studies included, massage was effective in pain relief in 83.3% of the studies. The comparative meta-analysis of massage versus routine care that assessed duration of crying obtained a statistically significant result (p = 0.0002; 95% CI -85.51 to -27.09). Conclusion Massage contributes to neonatal pain relief by reducing pain score and reducing crying time in newborns submitted to puncture.
