RESUMOIntrodução: A cosmologia busca compreender a evolução, a estrutura e a composição do Universo em suas maiores escalas. Assim, a cosmologia pretende abordar algumas das questões mais profundas que a humanidade busca responder, como a origem e o destino final do Universo. Metodologia: Este trabalho realizou-se a partir de uma revisão da literatura em trabalhos acadêmicos a fim de estudar a evolução das soluções do paradoxo. Resultados: Em meados do Século XX, acreditava-se que o espaço era infinito, estático e continha infinitas estrelas. Entretanto, desta maneira, qualquer linha de visão em direção ao espaço coincidiria com uma estrela de forma que o céu noturno deveria ser, portanto, extremamente brilhante, mesmo considerando a diminuição do brilho com a distância. Sendo assim, como explicar a evidente constatação que o céu é escuro durante a noite? Este problema é conhecido como o Paradoxo de Olbers (PO), em homenagem ao astrônomo amador alemão, Heinrich Olbers (apesar dele não ter sido o primeiro a descrevê-lo). Este enigma perdurou por vários anos. Diversos astrônomos, como Kepler, tentaram elaborar uma resposta para o problema. Até o momento, o PO não foi completamente resolvido, mas várias ideias foram propostas para tentar explicar a escuridão do céu noturno: uma hipótese é que a absorção e espalhamento da luz por partículas de poeira e gás interestelar pode ser responsável por reduzir significativamente a quantidade de luz que atinge a Terra; outra, é que a finitude da idade do Universo e a expansão do espaço-tempo limitam a quantidade de luz que pode chegar até nós. Conclusão: Neste sentido, pode-se dizer que a tentativa de resolução do PO desempenhou um papel essencial no desenvolvimento da cosmologia moderna, visto que levou à percepção de que o Universo não é infinito e estático, mas na verdade está se expandindo e evoluindo.
INTRODUÇÃO:Ao observar o céu noturno, imagina-se que as estrelas estão distantes e sozinhas no espaço, mas frequentemente elas fazem parte de um sistema múltiplo estelar. O estudo dos Sistemas Binários Estelares (SBE) é importante para avançar nossa compreensão da astrofísica de forma a, por exemplo, entender os mecanismos de evolução estelar, medição de massas das estrelas além de teorias físicas fundamentais. OBJETIVOS: Este trabalho busca definir as características gerais de SBE e a sua importância na astrofísica contemporânea. METODOLOGIA: Para isso, realizou-se uma revisão da literatura com base em artigos acadêmicos, livros e dissertações norteadas pelo tema. RESULTADOS: Um Sistema Binário Estelar é definido como duas estrelas que orbitam o centro de massa comum. As estrelas em um sistema binário podem apresentar tamanhos, temperaturas e idades diferentes, podendo também estar em diferentes estágios de seus ciclos de vida -alguns sistemas binários consistem em uma estrela normal e um remanescente estelar como uma anã branca ou uma estrela de nêutrons. Os sistemas binários são comuns no Universo: cerca de metade de todas as estrelas catalogadas estão em sistemas binários ou múltiplos. O avanço tecnológico possibilitou o estudo desses sistemas, tornando-os mais facilmente identificáveis por diferentes métodos. Esses métodos estão classificados de duas maneiras: a primeira pelo modo de como as estrelas são observadas, dividindo os sistemas binários em quatro tipos: visuais, eclipsantes, espectroscópicos e astrométricos; a segunda é do ponto de vista morfológico, com base no conceito de superfície Lagrangeana e lóbulo de Roche, que divide os sistemas em três tipos: binários de contato, semi contato e destacados. CONCLUSÃO: Considera-se que o estudo dos SBE é de grande importância visto que é uma das principais fontes para a determinação de parâmetros estelares fundamentais, como massa, magnitude, etc, permitindo o estudo de fenômenos mais complexos como a transferência de massa e a formação de sistemas planetários.
