PurposeThis study aims to assess the relationships among quality dimensions in higher education (HE) and to determine the effect of each quality dimension on students' satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachA questionnaire was developed and distributed to 270 final year students of an engineering faculty in an Indonesian state university. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to test the validity of the conceptual model and structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to measure the relationships that lie within the model.FindingsThe study reveals the relationships among quality dimensions in HE in the engineering faculty of this Indonesian state university. The results show that students' satisfaction was positively influenced by commitment of faculty management, the quality of course delivery, and the ease of giving feedback for quality improvement.Research limitations/implicationsThis study has limited scope because it was only conducted based on students' perceptions of an engineering faculty in one institution in Indonesia. However, the methods, models and instruments applied could serve as a basis for developing a measurement for evaluating quality in higher education more generally.Practical implicationsThe instrument in this study will be useful to help policy makers in engineering HE institutions to assess the level of quality dimensions in their institution and the effectiveness of their quality program based on students' satisfaction. Furthermore, the conceptual relationships model can give deeper understanding of the quality dimensions that should be prioritized by top management. Lastly, top management should pay attention to their commitment to quality, course activities, and customer feedback and improvement.Originality/valueThis research promotes a methodology using SEM to assess relationships among quality dimensions in HE that can be helpful for top management when making decisions. The conceptual relationships model can also be easily reproduced to assess other engineering institutions' characteristics.
The term "Internet of Things" first appeared in publication paper since 2006, describing the paradigm of evolution concept that brought about by the presence of internet technology (Vermesan and Friess, 2015) which is very important in contemporary circumstances. This study conducted an in-depth analysis of the research material written on 26420 papers which focused on the published Internet of Things (IoT) research, starting from the firstly year IoT keyword appeared in 2006 until 2018. The selected paper is a combination of various disciplines and publications which are all indexed by Scopus wherein the article discusses IoT. IoT articles are classified using key attributes in sequence: the methodology used, general knowledge and applied concepts, and various general exploration topics. By using the Scientometrics method, this method will group the overall terms that appear frequently from the Scopus paper database according to keywords, titles, and abstracts. The resulting data is then studied to understand and distinguish trends that occur in the time span along with the general characteristics of the paper, in the mathematics visual scheme. All various issues that are considered in the paper's methodology selection, their studied and services innovations, and continuing discoveries on the characteristics, concepts, and processes applied to IoT success. Although it only involves scopus indexed paper, this study found a remarkable increase in the number of articles on IoT in each category of the paper. This study also reveals the direction of the regular discipline of knowledge. The use of the Scientometrics method makes the analysis able to focus on the movement of characteristics and IoT themes to researcher's direction that has not found at this time, as a comprehensive guide to further research and industry strategy that is more directed on concepts that support the 4th industrial revolution.
Universities play an important role in motivating young graduates to become technology entrepreneurs. The objectives of this research are to investigate the success factors for business incubators and to develop and propose a framework of successful business incubators for public universities in Indonesia. Indonesian public universities that have business incubators were considered for this research. A preliminary study was conducted with a panel of experts who have the necessary insights and experiences in managing both the incubators and the relationships within the incubators with the tenant firms. This research examines some significant measures with reference to the unique features of university business incubators in order to better understand the manner in which incubators can be assessed in a developing country. The result of this research includes a framework of successful business incubators in Indonesian public universities. This framework is developed on the basis of previous studies and the preliminary study conducted with ten business incubator experts.
