The research built on the anthropological approach to text comprehension links philosophical and psycholinguistic perspectives of speech perception. The article analyzes the factors influencing adequate comprehension when perceiving foreign language oral speech, in terms of testees’ approximately similar level of language competence and linguo-psychic characteristics. The object of research is counter-texts defined as those fixed in written form samples of а recipient’s internal speech emerging in the process of perceiving utterances. A counter-text reveals intertextual links between two pictures of the world – the author’s and recipient’s ones, wherein a new formation is a projection of a recipient’s consciousness on the initial text. Using the technique of counter-textual analysis, we were able to ascertain students’ individual strategies of understanding instrumental in adequate comprehending foreign language utterance. These strategies are retelling, translation and assertion, i.e. the ones that fix in recipient’s consciousness sense knots of the utterance for further cognitive processing. It has been established that understanding is marked by a small number of deviations from the author’s idea when, firstly, a recipient has a rather wide cultural scope, which provides points of coincidence of dominant knots of the communicant and recipient, and, secondly, he or she has verbal thinking. The received data also bears evidence to the fact of negative impact of creative thinking mechanisms that can distort the initial sense of the utterance.

The article focuses on the problem of developing professional speech skills in advanced university studentsprospective English teachers. The authors argue a vivid potential of the integrated research project aimed at raising in students awareness of effective teacher speech acts in the English language classroom. The "Questioning Speech Acts: Teaching Challenges" project was realized within the course "Theory and practice of speech communication" and students' teaching practice. Questioning speech acts are prioritized in view of their role in the classroom discourse. The purpose of this article is to present the results of the experience teaching questioning speech acts by combining linguistic instruction and practice in professional context through linking knowledge and professional skills acquisition with research work. The study presented is a fragment of the complex investigation aimed at increasing master degree (MA) students' awareness of questioning techniques as an important element of classroom discourse. The data were collected with the help of the following methods: observations, analysis of the students' learning activity results, interviews, questionnaires, mathematical processing of obtained data. MA students were to carry out a mini-research within the joint teacher-student project work which comprised 3 stages. Working at the project students were to clarify the following questions: the proportion of questioning speach acts (QSAs) as compared with other speech acts in the EL classroom discourse; QSAs used by native EFL teachers in the classroom discourse with regard to a) the ELL proficiency level, b) lesson stage; QSAs primarily used by students-practice teachers in the classroom; popular QSAs with practice teachers with regard to a) the ELL proficiency level, b) lesson stage. Students were also to assess knowledge and practical skills developed while their working at the project. The point of interest of this research mini-project is its integrated and practically-oriented character provided by cognitive-communicative approach with students learning via cognition and learning via experience in developing QSAs awareness. The experiment results testify the efficacy of the experimental study for MA students' considerable increase of the proficiency in questioning as an important element of classroom discourse. Work at the project helped students to transform the acquired knowledge to new ways of verbal behaviour, to model successful communication in the EL classroom using questioning techniques, to modify their cognitive teaching styles. The research is devoted to the problem of mastering pre-service EFL teachers’ specific proficiency in using questions as an effective tool in the EL classroom discourse and university discourse. The purpose of the paper is to submit the teaching scheme of training pre-service EFL teachers’ questioning skills, encouraging them to work out their own teaching strategies in the future professional activity. The authors substantiate the possibility of improving MA students and pre-service EFL teachers’, questioning skills via suggested teaching scheme actualising interdisciplinary connections between the practical course (“English Communication in Academic Discourse”) and theoretical-practical course (“Theory and Practice of Speech Communication”) and students’ teaching practice that are majors of the Master’s degree curriculum. The emphasis is laid on the content level – EL classroom discourse acquisition. The experiment was conducted involving 90 MA students, pre-service EFL teachers, of South-Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K. D. Ushynsky to clarify the efficiency of the suggested teaching scheme. Data were obtained and analysed via pre-experimental assessment stage, experimental teaching (implementation of the suggested teaching scheme), post-experimental assessment stage employing quantitative and qualitative research methods. Data collection procedures included pedagogical observation, analysis of the students’ results, self-assessment questionnaire, student’s opinion questionnaire, statistical and mathematical processing of obtained data. The findings of the research indicate that the suggested teaching scheme using interdisciplinary approach helps students become more proactive in constructing their knowledge of questions linguodidactic potential, to transform the acquired knowledge to new ways of verbal behaviour, to model successful communication in the EL classroom through appropriate questions, and to modify their teaching styles. The authors come to the conclusion that it is mandatory to include special consecutive training covering initially purely practical courses with a gradual shift to theoretical-practical ones, and finally – teaching practices as a closing step to improve students’ proficiency in using questions effectively in the EL classroom school and university discourse.

For English teachers listening fluency is a fundamental competency for their professional development. Listening is one of the most complicated and problematic aspects of learning English, as it leads to high mental strain. The objective of the research is to study mobile learning as a means to improve listening comprehension skills of the future English teachers. The tasks of the research are as follows: to identify and work out the theoretical framework for mobile applications use and their role in teaching English; to present the pilot study of the role of mobile learning in students’ autonomous work, in particular for listening comprehension skills improvement. The following methods were used: theoretical (theoretical-and-methodological analysis, classification and systematization of scientific sources, comparison and generalization of the theoretical and experimental research data), empirical (observation, testing), data processing methods (generalization and systematization of qualitative and quantitative results of the empirical research); methods of mathematical statistics (evaluation of experimental data by the arithmetic mean calculation). Upon the theoretical analysis results, the categories of mobile applications and their role in teaching English were identified. The survey showed that the students use mobile learning insufficiently and ineffectively. The research on the use of mobile learning as a means to improve the future English teachers’ listening comprehension skills was conducted. This required selection of several mobile applications (Duolingo, LinguaLeo, Learning English with New York Times, Polyglot 16 EnglishPod - Learn English, Bussu), the main selection criterion being the availability of tasks and texts for listening. The results of the term listening comprehension test showed that the students of the experimental groups who studied using mobile learning scored higher than those of the control groups, which proved relevance and effectiveness of mobile learning use as a means to improve the future teachers’ of the English language listening comprehension skills.

In today’s conditions of globalization, social transformations, and digitalisation of modern society the research becomes topical. Any modern social and professional sphere requires fluency in English. Effective oral and written communication requires intensification of university students’ educational activity via internal motivation development. Digital technologies, which are an integral part of modern youth’s life, were chosen as a means of internal motivation formation. The purpose of the study was to determine the role of digital technologies as a means of internal motives formation in training future English language and literature teachers. The data were collected with the help of the following methods: pilot training,, content analysis of digital tools for teaching English, surveys (questionnaires and research interviews) and scientific (pedagogical) observation. The study theoretically substantiates and experimentally confirms the effectiveness of the proposed digital technologies, the use of which promotes the development of internal motives at university students in the process of learning English. Tasks that involved the active use of messengers and selected digital tools were developed. Such messengers as WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Facebook and digital tools for learning English as Duolingo, Quizlet, Learnenglish Podcast, Speak – practice your English, Lingualeo were selected. As a result of the research it is proved that the use of digital technologies in both extracurricular and extracurricular work has a positive effect on the formation of university students’ internal motives that helps to improve their academic achievements in learning English at special faculty.
