The growing share of seniors in the population of Poland and the lack of systemic solutions in the field of social security, resulting from the lack of diagnosis of real needs of this group, imposes the extension of research tasks undertaken so far. Such diagnosis is needed to build a housing system for the Polish seniors. The objective of the article is to present selected results of research on the needs of people aged 60+ conducted in 2017. The study of quantitative and qualitative nature, was based an online questionnaire (CAWI — Computer-Assisted Web Interview) as well as on a questionnaire distributed in paper form and individual interviews were also conducted (IDI — In-depth Interview). The results of the quantitative research together with the recommendations included in the expertise can constitute a field for entrepreneurship at various levels of activities in construction and services related to facilities in the existing housing infrastructure. Senior housing requires sectoral cooperation, various forms of construction and financing models for housing construction.
The presence of a child with disabilities in a family presents more challenging conditions than the presence of a non-disabled child. One of the difficulties is of financial nature. One of the parents often has to give up their job to care for the child, which shrinks the household income. At the same time, the family has higher expenses resulting from, e.g. costs of treatment. All this increases the risk of falling into poverty. The goal of this paper is to analyse the financial situation of households with a disabled child, mainly in the context of poverty, and compare it to the financial situation of households with non-disabled children. The study is based on data from Polish Household Budget Survey, covering two years, 2014 and 2016. The study revealed that families with a disabled child are generally poorer than families with non-disabled children. The financial situation improved over the studied period in both types of families, but the improvement in the families with a disabled child was much greater. The main factor in reducing the risk of poverty in both types of families is the education attainment level of the reference person (the household head), which should be at least upper secondary.
Background: Quality of life is one of the most important conceptual categories in many scientific fields and socio-economic practices. In the authors’ opinion, the assessment of the overall quality of life and the health-related quality of life of private entrepreneurs deserves particular attention. Until now, quality of life and its determinants in entrepreneurs have been investigated by few authors. The aim of this study was to identify and assess the key determinants of quality of life and its health-related aspects in entrepreneurs from Wroclaw, Poland. Methods: A questionnaire survey was carried out in a group of 616 entrepreneurs selected from among 4332 individuals (2276 women, 2056 men) who had participated in a study on the socioeconomic determinants of quality of life and physical activity of Wrocław residents of working age. The main research method was a diagnostic survey using S-ES and WHOQOL BREF questionnaires. Information was obtained on respondents’ quality of life and perceived health condition, as well as sex, age, education, marital status, number of people in the household, income per capita, savings, and indebtedness. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis using numerical distribution, medians, and quartile deviation. Crude and adjusted odds ratios were used to assess relationships between entrepreneurs’ quality of life and socioeconomic status. Results: Over 66% of Wroclaw entrepreneurs rated their overall quality of life as average or above average and about 34% as below average. An average or above assessment of perceived health condition was provided by 71% of respondents, and below average by 29% of respondents. Health-related quality of life was assessed as average or above average in the environmental domain by 79%, physical domain by 77%, social domain by 65%, and psychological domain by 58% of the entrepreneurs. Among the respondents significant correlations were found between quality of life and perceived health condition; family status, i.e., marital status; number of persons in the household; and financial status, i.e., per capita income, savings, and debt. Conclusions: The results of this study can be used for managing the quality of life of entrepreneurs. Quality of life determinants should be constantly updated, as they may change along with further economic development and Poland’s economic convergence with better developed EU countries.
The increase in the share of the number of older people in the Polish population requires constant diagnosis of the degree of satisfying their needs. One of the ways of such assessment is the dynamic analysis of changes in the goods and services consumption. The author's research task was to find an answer to the question whether according to subjective opinions of seniors in 2007, there were consumption restrictions caused primarily by the deterioration of the their material situation and whether this situation deepened over the next 10 years. The aim of the article is to analyze the distribution of responses to this question in 2007 and 2016 based on the results of the GUS household budget surveys in single-person households (singles), where the situation may be particularly difficult. Two age groups were distinguished, differentiating the responses. The choice of years of observation was based on the occurrence of favourable assessments of the economic and social situations in these periods. One- and multi-dimensional tools of statistical analysis were used.
The article presents the results of the household living standards research based on the analysis of consumption expenditure by voivodships. The research was conducted with the exception of voivodship capitals as they are national development centers with higher consumption. The assessment of the level and structure of consumption in the Mazowieckie voivodship made the authors narrow the scope of data, which showed a significant overestimation of the results due to the presence of Warsaw in the dataset. Taxonomic analysis methods in the form of classical and order measure were used in the research. The analysis was based on the set of characteristics generated on the basis of data for 2014 from the Household Budget Survey carried out by the CSO. Particular attention was paid to the households expenditure for which the need of aggregate variable construction was emphasized, related to leisure time spending as one of the living standard measure.
