AbstractThe study here presented aims to understand the pathways of persistent students in distance higher education, contributing to the identification of relevant factors for their promotion. A survey by questionnaire was applied to students of the Open University, Portugal (Universidade Aberta), characterizing, among other aspects, the individual dimension of permanent students. The elements considered within this dimension were based on the learning styles theory. The online learning styles were analyzed, as was their pedagogical importance and contributions to the development of learning and teaching strategies. Keywords: Permanence, Higher Education, Distance Education, Learning styles.
