Este artigo relata e analisa uma intervenção didática experimental de baixo custo para o ensino de cinemática realizada numa turma do primeiro ano do ensino médio. O experimento consistiu na investigação de um lançamento horizontal de projéteis com medidas de tempos e velocidades realizadas através de um dispositivo denominado fotogate, conectado a um computador. Dentre os objetivos destacam-se o uso de atividades experimentais em sala de aula combinadas com a inserção de tecnologias computacionais, ambos não muito utilizados em sala de aula. A atividade foi desenvolvida no Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (PIBIB - CAPES) do subprojeto do Curso de Licenciatura em Física do Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo (IFES) - campus Cariacica, atuando em uma escola de ensino médio do município de Vitória no Espírito Santo. A intervenção ocorreu em quatro encontros que envolveram a apresentação e explicação do experimento para a turma, seguida da realização do experimento juntamente com os alunos que fizeram a coleta dos dados e a investigação. Ao final da intervenção houve um momento de avaliação. A análise da aplicação permitiu constatar que o ensino através da atividade experimental e da tecnologia computacional conseguiu motivar os alunos e despertar o interesse deles pelo assunto, bem como tornar a postura deles mais ativa em sala de aula. Além disso, como conclusão constatou-se indícios de aprendizagem conceitual sobre o tema.
