Objetivo: Analisar a influência do sono na qualidade de vida (QV) e no rendimento acadêmico de estudantes de Medicina. Metodologia: Estudo transversal, quantitativo, observacional, descritivo e individuado, feito com 303 estudantes do 1º ao 8º semestre do curso de Medicina em uma universidade pública no interior do Ceará. A pesquisa foi realizada a partir de uma adaptação do Índice de Qualidade do Sono de Pittsburgh para a realidade brasileira. Os dados foram transferidos para uma planilha no Excel. Resultados e Discussão: 58% dos participantes dormem menos de 7 horas diárias, número inferior ao recomendado na literatura. 84,1% desses relataram acordar no meio da noite ou antes do esperado pela manhã, perturbando a duração do sono. Entre os fatores estudados prejudiciais ao sono destacaram-se tosse, roncos, temperatura inadequada do quarto, pesadelos, dor e ansiedade relacionada à vida pessoal e acadêmica. 75,3% relataram dificuldade de ficar acordado durante o dia para realizar atividades cotidianas, e, 88,5% afirmaram ter problemas para manter o ânimo para realizar as atividades diárias. Conclusão: Percebe-se má qualidade de sono multifatorial fortemente associada a um prejuízo na QV e no desempenho acadêmico, demonstrando a necessidade da preocupação com a higiene do sono.
