Tatu Peba is an animal fro m Euphractus genus whose anatomy and/or systemic description are little studied, a fundamental understanding of biological system knowledge of this animal. Thus, this work aimed perform an anatomical description of abdominal aorta and Tatu Peba branches through a comparative study using 2 male and 2 female specimens. In this sense, the present work showed unprecedentedly discovery about this animal as the first major branch of abdominal aorta is celiac trunk and the second branch is a. Mesenteric cranial. From ventrolateral face, a. Phrenic caudal, by ventral small face Aa. Accessory Mesenteric and five pairs of Aa. Lombares. Medium distance, between Celiac Trunk and Aa. External Iliacs, born Renal arteries. A. Caudal Mesenteric emerges ventrally to caudal part of large intestine. In the final part of aorta, Aa. External Iliacs borns ventrolaterally and caudally projected. After Aa. External Iliacs origin, the aorta undergoes a drastic reduction of caliber and forms a short trunk that divides into terminal branches of aorta: right internal iliac, Left Internal Iliac and a. Median sinsacral in sagittal plane which emits an a. Lateral to each side, following three caudally. In view of these findings, the present study showed that abdominal aorta of Tatu Peba presents smaller number of branches bought from other ma mmals and contributes to anatomical description and understanding of important blood vessels in this animal biological system.
Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) is considered one of the largest and most beautiful canids in South America, inhabits the Cerrado biome, and presents nocturnal habits, especially during the twilight period. It is in danger of extinction, mainly due to anthropic activity in its habitat. What certainly raises the importance of studying and better understanding its biology. The mammalian Facial Nerve is the seventh cranial pair and controls the functions of facial expression muscles and others. Once the anatomical descriptions of this canid are scarce, this paper aimed to describe the anatomy of Facial n. in Maned Wolf and correlate it with that of domestic canids, a phylogenetically close species whose anatomy is well known. For this research, four adult specimens were used, whose carcasses were collected along highways in southeastern Goiás State - Brazil (SISBIO 37072-2), or donated by the Wildlife Screening Center (CETAS) in Catalão - Goiás State. The specimens were fixed in a 10% aqueous formalin solution and stored in the same solution. Dissection was performed by macroscopic anatomical methods. The research was carried out with a favorable opinion of the Animal Use Ethics Committee (CEUA) of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) (under n° 067/12). Anatomical preparations of post-mortem Maned Wolf did not reveal the presence of Caudal Auricular, Internal Auricular, nor Stylohyoid n.. Small ramifications of Facial n. can be considered as collateral branches. The Facial n. emerged as a single trunk, Facial n. Trunk, which branches into Auriculopalpebral, Dorsal Buccal, and Ventral Buccal n..
Verify possible associations between obesity and knee OA in users of Brazilian Unified National Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS) of primary care network in Catalão-GO, Brazil. This is an observational study conducted in 2014 and 2015. A total of 81 volunteers from the Basic Attention Network in the city of Catalão, with body mass index (BMI) over 30 kg/m2 in both sexes, age between 40 and 60 years, and OA on radiological examination of the knee. Obesity was classified according to BMI. The diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA) was made clinically and by radiography according to Kellgren radiological classification. The level of physical activity was assessed using the Baecke questionnaire and the Gordon Functional Classification. The volunteers underwent an anthropometric evaluation and physical examination with inspection and palpation of the joint and subsequent radiological examination of the knee. The volunteers answered a questionnaire on the level of physical activity and functional classification. Data analysis was performed using Fisher’s exact test or chi-square test was used for comparisons of two proportions. In comparisons of continuous variables, Student’s t-test or the nonparametric Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test was used. The level of significance was set to 5%. Practice of regular physical exercise decreases functional impairment in obese individuals with knee OA. The weight variable demonstrated a strong association with the severity of OA and degree of functionality of patients. Obesity and OA durations and lack of patient guidance are variables that may contribute to the progression of knee OA. Although the incidence among men is lower, they are more severely affected and anthropometric evaluation and physical examination are an efficacy implementations for Brazilian users of SUS.
The present study is a descriptive and comparative research of masseter muscle in Maned Wolf, involving dissection, analysis and discussion with d omestic dog, relatively, well established. For this, two adult specimens, with no defined age, were used under usual techniques of preparation and dissection in anatomy. In this sense, this work shows that masseter muscle in Maned Wolf is rectangular oblique, dorsal to ventral and rostral to caudal, on lateral side of head and ventrally to the ear, extending from ventral border of zygomatic arch to mandible. In summary, the results reveal that there is a basic an atomical pattern similar to domestic Dog, differentiating its rectangular shape and number of layers. However, this study showed unprecedented characteristic and differences inherent to each species, especially those related to their size and eating habits.
