Introduction: Proprioception is a term used to describe all the neural information originated from the proprioceptors of the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and capsules, which is sent via afferent pathways to the central nervous system. EMG is the study of muscle function through the investigation of the electrical signal emanated from the muscle and it is also the study of the motor unit activity. Objective: To perform electromyographic analysis of the rectus femoris (RF) and tibialis anterior (TA) in different proprioceptive exercises (disc Freeman and rocker) with eyes open (EO) and eyes closed (EC). Methods: The analysis was conducted with 10 physically active male subjects, in a collection time of 10 seconds on each device with eyes both open and closed. Results: Thus, according to our findings, significant difference is observed when the proprioceptive exercises are performed with eyes open and closed, obtaining higher muscle activation, according to the electromyographic analysis, in the exercises with eyes closed, highlighting the importance of the visual system and how it interferes in the body's position when it is subjected to balance changes caused by the studied devices. Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that the rectus femoris muscle did not show evident significant differences between the rocker and Freeman disc, as well as when the exercise was performed with eyes open or closed. The significant difference occurred was between the EO and EC Rocker and between Rocker EO and disk Freeman EC. Since the tibialis anterior muscle showed greater differences, especially with eyes closed, regardless of the device, which showed no significant differences between them.
ABSTRACTThe creation of the Family Health Support Centers (NASF) definitively marks the performance of multidisciplinary teams within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS). The present study aims to compare the quality of life of non-users and users of NASF through the SF36 generic questionnaire. This is a cross-sectional quantitative study, in which the questionnaires were applied to two groups of thirty users, divided between participants and non-participants of NASF activities, in a medium-sized municipality of Minas Gerais. The results showed that only in the domain Limitation by Physical Aspects (LF) significant differences were found for p <0,001. It's concluded that the NASF should direct its multidisciplinary activities so that all the aspects that interfere in the quality of life the individuals have positive impact.
DESCRITORES: Antropometria; Mulheres; Obesidade; Osteoartrite do joelho ABSTRACT: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by inflammatory process, pain, and deformity; one of its main predictive factors is obesity. The aim of this study was to search for possible correlations between anthropometric measures, the Q angle and knee osteoarthritis. A sample of 50 obese women (30 with knee osteoarthritis and 20 with no joint disease), aged between 40 to 60 years, were assessed as to BMI (body mass index), abdominal circumference (AC), waist and hip perimeters (so as to calculate waist-hip ratio), and the Q angle; osteoarthritis was diagnosed by clinical exam and knee joint radiography. Results showed a positive, poor correlation between BMI and Q angle, as well as between time of obesity onset and degree of joint degeneration. AC was found to positively, though weakly, correlate with the degree of joint degeneration and of OA severity. Adjusted odds ratio for OA showed that women with BMI>34 kg/m 2 and AC>110 cm were respectively 3.7 and 7 times more likely to develop OA. The degree and duration of central obesity possibly contribute to incidence of knee OA in obese women. Abdominal circumference was the measure that most correlated with the degree of joint degeneration and of OA severity, which suggests it should be used in clinical evaluation.
Background:The abdominal muscles are extremely important because they are directly involved in the functions of support, containment of viscera, and help in the process of expiration, defecation, urination, vomiting, and also at the time of childbirth. Many exercises and equipment are used to strengthen the abdominal muscles, and the workouts are proposed for a variety of purposes, such as preventing and rehabilitating low back pain, improving sports performance, achieving aesthetic standards, among others. Exercises that potentiate the electromyographic activity promote a greater recruitment of muscle fibers and are more effective to improve or maintain of the force. The electromyographic activity analysis allows us to reflect on the quality of the exercises proposed, consequently, to choose and order the exercises properly in a training session. Methods:Our systematic review protocol will developed following the reporting items for the systematic review. To identify relevant studies, we sought articles on the following bases: MEDLINE, PubMed, Europubmed, SciELO, Physiotherapy Evidences Data Base (PEDro), Cochrane, and Google Scholar. The methodological quality of the studies included in the review will evaluated using a checklist and quality assessment. For intervention studies, risk of bias will estimated using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. Results:The results of this study will show the electromyographic activation of the abdomen in the different types of exercises. Conclusion:Ethics approval was not required for this study because it was based on published studies. The results and findings of this study will be submitted and published in a scientific peer-reviewed journal.Systematic review registration:PROSPERO CRD42018086172.
The present study is a descriptive and comparative research of masseter muscle in Maned Wolf, involving dissection, analysis and discussion with d omestic dog, relatively, well established. For this, two adult specimens, with no defined age, were used under usual techniques of preparation and dissection in anatomy. In this sense, this work shows that masseter muscle in Maned Wolf is rectangular oblique, dorsal to ventral and rostral to caudal, on lateral side of head and ventrally to the ear, extending from ventral border of zygomatic arch to mandible. In summary, the results reveal that there is a basic an atomical pattern similar to domestic Dog, differentiating its rectangular shape and number of layers. However, this study showed unprecedented characteristic and differences inherent to each species, especially those related to their size and eating habits.
