É necessário encontrar meios para quantificar de maneira eficiente e econômica o nível de atividade física da população. Os questionários são formas viáveis e econômicas, embora seja discutível a fidedignidade dessas medidas. Este estudo objetivou determinar a reprodutibilidade e a validade do Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física (IPAQ) em homens idosos. A amostra foi composta por 29 homens idosos acima de 60 anos, com média de idade de 66,6 anos (DP = 4,3), participantes do programa de extensão da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: a) IPAQ, forma longa; b) pedômetro; e c) Diário de Atividade Física de Bouchard (DAF). Para a reprodutibilidade foram realizadas duas aplicações do IPAQ, com intervalo de 21 dias (r s = 0,95). A análise estatística adotada foi a correlação de Spearman (r s), o percentual de concordância (%C), o índice kappa (k) e a plotagem de Bland e Altman. A amostra foi dividida, utilizando-se como critério a mediana. A reprodutibilidade apresentou correlação de r s = 0,95. A associação entre o IPAQ e o DAF foi de: r s = 0,38; %C = 69 e k = 0,04 e a associação entre o IPAQ e o pedômetro de: r s = 0,24; %C = 62 e k = 0,19. Concluiu-se que a validade variou de moderada a baixa, enquanto a reprodutibilidade foi adequada.

The results reinforce the importance of active lifestyles for preventing mental health problems among elderly people. It is inferred that the physical activity was able to reduce and/or delay the risks of dementia, although it cannot be stated that dementia is avoided through physical activity.

OBJECTIVE:To estimate the prevalence and associated factors of depressive symptoms in the elderly. METHODS:Cross-sectional population based epidemiological study (The EpiFloripa Elderly survey) was carried out in two stage clusters, census tracts and households, with1.656 elderly individuals in Florianópolis, SC. The prevalence of depressive symptoms (outcome) was obtained using Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) and its associations with socio-demographic, health, behavioral and social variables were assessed. Crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confi dence intervals were calculated using Poisson regression. RESULTS:Depressive symptoms were observed in 23.9% of the elderly individuals (95%CI 21.84;26.01). In the fi nal model, depressive symptoms were associated with: 5 to 8 years of schooling (PR = 1.50, 95%CI 1.08;2.08); one to four years of schooling (PR = 1.62, 95%CI 1.18;2.23) and no schooling (PR = 2.11, 95%CI 1.46;3.05); being in a worse fi nancial condition than at the age of 50 (PR = 1.33, 95%CI 1.02;1.74); cognitive impairment (PR = 1.45, 95%CI 1.21;1.75); perceiving their health to be regular (PR = 1.95, 95%CI 1.47;2.60) or poor (PR = 2.64, 95%CI 1.82;3.83); functional dependence (PR =1.83, 95%CI 1.43;2.33) and chronic pain (PR = 1.35, 95%CI 1.10;1.67). Elderly people often suffer from depression and it is highlighted as one of the most common and signifi cant psychiatric problems. 2,8 According to a systematic review, prevalence worldwide varies between 0.9% and 9.4% in those living in the community and 14% to 42% in those living in a care home.8 Brazilian epidemiological studies carried out with the elderly show that the prevalence of depressive symptoms varies between 195 and 34% in the different regions of the country. 4,5,10,15 The high prevalence of depression requires the attention of health care professionals and managers, as this disease increases the likelihood of functional incapacity in the elderly 16 and constitutes a signifi cant public health problem.Among the factors linked to depression, the following stand out: being female, insomia, 6,10 and a predominance of negative exchanges in relationships with family and friends. 23 These factors, especially those that can be modifi ed, need to be further explored, taking into account cultural differences between countries and regional differences within those countries, as in Brazil.Identifying the factors linked to the presence of depressive symptoms may help prevent depression among the elderly 3 and give an opportunity to non-pharmacological treatment strategies. Adaptação do questionário internacional de atividade física para idososAdaptation of the international physical activity questionarie for the elderly Resumo -O Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física -IPAQ estima o dispêndio energético semanal de atividades físicas (AF). Ele foi validado para idosos brasileiros. Diante de dificuldades apresentadas pelos idosos quanto à mensuração da quantidade de dias, do tempo e da intensidade na realização das AF (domínios), durante uma semana normal, e pelos entrevistadores na pesquisa de campo, surgiu a necessidade de adaptação na estrutura e aplicação do IPAQ. O IPAQ adaptado é composto por 5 domínios e 15 questões; é aplicado em forma de entrevista, devido ao baixo nível de escolaridade dos idosos; no modelo longo, pela melhor discriminação nas AF em cada domínio; referente a uma semana normal, auxiliando no recordatório durante os turnos (manhã, tarde e noite); e com detalhamento sobre a intensidade leve, moderada e vigorosa. O treinamento dos entrevistadores é fundamental. O relatório do IPAQ adaptado entregue ao idoso deve ser em minutos por semana e usar a classificação de "ativos" (>= 150 min/sem). O IPAQ adaptado para idosos é um instrumento internacional, com validade para a população idosa brasileira, de fácil aplicação, baixo custo financeiro, que atinge grandes grupos populacionais, método não invasivo, entre outras vantagens. Abstract -The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) estimates the weekly energy expenditure for physical activities (PA). This instrument was validated for use withBrazilian older adults. The need to adapt the structure and application of the IPAQ arose from the difficulties of older adults to correctly measure the number of days, time and intensity of PA (domains) during a normal week and the difficulties encountered by the interviewers in field research. The adapted IPAQ consists of five domains and 15 questions and is applied by interview because of the low educational level of Brazilian older adults. The instrument is applied in its long form to permit better discrimination of PA in each domain and refers to a normal week to help recall morning, afternoon and evening activities. In addition, it includes details about mild, moderate and vigorous intensity. The training of the interviewers is fundamental. The report of the IPAQ adapted for older adults should be delivered in minutes per week and should use the classification active (≤ 150 min/week). The IPAQ adapted for older adults is an international instrument that is valid for the Brazilian elderly population. The instrument is a noninvasive easily applied method of low cost that reaches large population groups, among other advantages.

Abstract

Resumo -O objetivo deste estudo foi desenvolver valores normativos para a aptidão funcional e o índice de aptidão funcional geral (IAFG) para homens de 60 a 69 anos. Foram avaliados 112 idosos residentes em Florianópolis/SC ou Rio Claro/SP, por meio da bateria de testes da AAHPERD, que realizavam atividade física sistematizada, supervisionada e regularmente, há pelo menos 6 meses. A bateria é composta por cinco testes que avaliam a flexibilidade, coordenação, agilidade/equilíbrio dinâmico, força e capacidade aeróbia. Para a análise dos dados e construção dos valores normativos das aptidões funcionais e do IAFG, utilizou-se o cálculo de percentis. Foram utilizados como pontos de corte os percentis 20, 40, 60 e 80 para gerar as classificações: muito fraco, fraco, regular, bom e muito bom, respectivamente. O desenvolvimento de valores normativos pode servir como referência aos profissionais, para que possam melhor avaliar, orientar e prescrever atividade física para homens idosos.

Objetivou-se verificar a associação entre condições de saúde e nível de atividade física em idosos participantes e não participantes de grupos de convivência de Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. A amostra foi constituída de 1.062 idosos (625 mulheres), com média de idade de 71,9 anos (±7,6). Foram analisadas as variáveis sociodemográficas (sexo, idade, escolaridade e estado civil), nível de atividade física (International Physical Activity Questionaire) e saúde física (Questionário Brazil Older Aging Schedule). Os dados foram analisados por meio da estatística descritiva e teste Qui-quadrado. Os resultados demonstraram que 60,6% dos idosos foram classificados como ativos fisicamente. A presença de doenças foi relatada por 74% dos idosos, sendo que os participantes de grupos de convivência (GP) apresentaram maior prevalência que o grupo não participante (GNP). Porém, mesmo com maior prevalência de doença, os idosos do GP apresentaram percepção positiva do estado de saúde. Para as mulheres, a participação em grupos de convivência associou-se positivamente com percepção do estado de saúde (p < 0,001) e com presença de doença (p = 0,005). Conclui-se que a participação nos grupos de convivência contribui para a melhor percepção do estado de saúde e para a manutenção de níveis adequados de atividade física.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the VAMOS strategy (Health-Improving Active Life) in improving physical activity (PA), dietary habits, and anthropometric variables of primary health care (PHC) users in Brazil. A randomized controlled community trial was conducted at two units of the Health Academy Program (HAP; a service provided by PHC), which were randomly assigned either to control group (CG) or intervention group (IG). Participants in both groups (CG = 156 and IG = 135) took part in physical activity classes provided by HAP facilities with those in IG also participating in the VAMOS strategy for 12 weeks. This strategy is based on social cognitive theory. The main behavioral constructs addressed were self-efficacy, goal setting, self-monitoring, identification of social support and barriers, and solutions for the identified barriers. Physical activity was measured with accelerometers, and nutritional status was assessed using dietary habits questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Intention-to-treat analysis revealed that participants in IG increased the daily time of moderate-vigorous PA and the frequency of raw vegetable intake, while the intake of ultra-processed foods was reduced. Weight loss among participants who were classified as overweight/obese at baseline was observed in the intervention group compared to control. These results suggest that the VAMOS strategy was effective in increasing PA, healthy dietary habits, and decreasing weight among PHC users. Therefore, VAMOS could be used as a strategy to strengthen individuals’ autonomy regarding healthy choices and improve their overall health.
