Por muito tempo acreditava-se que a aprendizagem era produzida apenas por repetição e memorização de conteúdos, no entanto, com os elevados números de alunos tendo insucesso de aprendizagem na atualidade, passou-se a buscar novas formas de ensino onde o aluno seja mais que um mero ouvinte passando a ser o agente principal na construção do conhecimento. No caso da química, a maior dificuldade está relacionada aos conteúdos complexos e ao fato de seu processo de aprendizagem estar baseado em modelos (representações da natureza, elaborados a partir de observações e experiências) tornando assim, seus conceitos muito abstratos para os alunos. Esses modelos são imaginários, “inventados” pelos cientistas para explicar os fenômenos observados em laboratório, e os alunos não conseguem migrar do imaginário para o visível, dessa forma o ensino de química se torna algo desestimulante, desinteressante e sem significado. Diante disso evidencia-se a necessidade de buscar ferramentas que auxiliem e facilitem o ensino-aprendizagem de química nas escolas. Na busca de novas formas de ensinar e aprender encontrou-se um novo caminho para melhorar o ensino, a tecnologia, que cada vez mais é evidenciada e ganha espaço em nossa sociedade, tendo potencial de causar uma revolução para o ensino de química. São inúmeras as vantagens que ela apresenta, melhorando desde as formas de representar e explorar os conteúdos, até tornando a aprendizagem mais rica, inovadora e atraente para os alunos, por meio de métodos mais dinâmicos, estimulando o gosto de aprender. Ela pode ser inserida nas aulas em forma de simulações computacionais, que são programas que fazem representações de modelos reais, facilitando seu entendimento, interpretação e reflexão. Simulações como Carbópolis, Jogo das coisas, Urânio 235, Comprando compostos orgânicos no mercado, são formas inovadoras de trabalhar conteúdos químicos, demonstrando que a utilização de tecnologias já é uma realidade na educação e que seu uso trará benefícios incalculáveis no processo de ensino-aprendizagem.
