Resumo: Este trabalho é fruto de uma pesquisa realizada em um curso livre de idiomas na cidade de Jataí, Goiás. O meu objetivo de pesquisa foi verificar de que forma os professores de língua inglesa deste curso têm feito uso do texto literário em suas aulas. Os objetivos específicos deste trabalho são: 1) fazer um levantamento através de um questionário semifechado, entrevistas e narrativas, se estes professores utilizam o texto literário em suas aulas; 2) como e por que o utilizam; e 3) como é a receptividade dos alunos em relação às atividades propostas. Os resultados nos mostram que os professores têm feito uso do texto literário de diversas formas e que essa ferramenta tem colaborado para a aprendizagem da língua alvo de seus alunos. Por muito tempo, a sala de aula de LE abrangia apenas o ensino (ou memorização) de estruturas e regras gramaticais e priorizava a língua escrita, de forma descontextualizada e desvinculada da realidade do aluno. Para Yamakawa (2012), as aulas que mantêm seu foco somente em descrições sistemáticas de língua fracassam em formar alunos capazes de utilizar a língua de forma completa e interagir socialmente. Lançados pelo Ministério da Educação no ano 2000, os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN) para o Ensino Médio propõem mudanças no ensino de um modo geral,
