A 44-year-old woman presented to our surgical outpatient department with right lower abdominal pain. A firm fist-sized mass was palpable in the right lower abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed a swelling of appendix and high-density tissues around the cecum. The patient was diagnosed with local peritonitis accompanied by acute appendicitis. A partial ileocecal resection was performed by pararectal incision because the inflammation had spread to the root of the appendix. Pathological findings showed fibroblast proliferation with remarkable infiltration of the appendix and cecum with inflammatory cells such as plasma cells, lymphocytes, and eosinophils. No neoplastic changes were seen in the appendix ; hence, we diagnosed the patient with a cecal inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT). Here, we report a rare case of an IPT arising from the cecum in the colon.
