This investigation was executed during two successive seasons of 2006 and 2007 at the Experimental Orchard of Fruit Section, Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University on Manfalouty pomegranate cultivar. Fifty trees of Manfalouty pomegranate cultivar were selected and divided into ten treatments; each treatment represented five trees (Replicates). The study aimed to investigate the effect of flower thinning and ethrel with or without GA 3 spraying on yield and fruit quality of this cultivar. The treatments consisted of: manual thinning of all the flowers appeared during the last week of May till the end of flowering period, spraying with gibberellic acid (GA 3 ) at 50, 100 and 150 ppm. , flower thinning + spraying with GA 3 at 100 ppm., spraying with Ethrel at 1000 ppm. , spraying with Ethrel at 1000 ppm + GA 3 at 50, 100 and 150 ppm and the control (water spraying). The study indicated that flower thinning recorded the highest number of grade I fruits. Flower thinning and the flower thinning + spraying caused a significant decrease in the fruit numbers of grade III while the remained treatments showed insignificant differences.
During 2015 and 2016 seasons, Thompson Seedless grapevines were fertilized with organic fertilizer, compost, humic acid and bio fertilizer (Ascophyliumnodosum) algae. These fertilizers were used as a partial replacement for inorganic N fertilizer improving yield, lowering pollution and enhancing the efficiency of exportation to foreign markets. The obtained results indicated that application of N as 50% inorganic N plus50% organic N and algae 5ml / vine was the best management system for ensuring the best yield, number of clusters /vine and cluster weight, leaf mineral content and improving the chemical characteristics of berries as total soluble solids (TSS), total acidity (TA) and Tss /acid ratio and decreasing nitrate and nitrite content in the berries.
This work was carried out during two successive seasons 2015 and 2016 to study the effect of Red Roomy grapes coating with chitosan (2%) and clove oil (3%) on weight loss and decay percentages during cold storage. The obtained result showed that fruit weight loss(%) and decay(%) significantly increased by all treatments with advancing the storage duration and reached its maximum values at the end of storage period. Moreover at the end of storage period the highest values of weight loss (%) and decay (%) were recorded in uncoated grapes (control) as compared with both chitosan and clove oil coating during both experimental seasons. In addition the lowest values of weight loss and decay % were found in the grapes coated with chitosan during the first season (2015), while the coated grapes with clove oil had the lowest percentages of weight loss and decay during the second season (2016).
