L’une des missions des lycées maritimes français est de former les futurs pêcheurs. Les enseignants de techniques maritimes sont, pour la plupart, d’anciens professionnels de la pêche et/ou de la marine de commerce ayant vécu une transition vers le métier d’enseignant. L’objectif de cet article est de décrire les représentations de l’apprentissage et de l’enseignement des enseignants de techniques maritimes et d’en comprendre les origines selon les motifs de leur orientation professionnelle, les conditions de leurs apprentissages antérieurs (dans la famille, à l’école et sur le navire), les circonstances de leur « migration » vers l’enseignement et les caractéristiques de leurs élèves actuels. Pour cela, nous avons recueilli les récits des carrières de sept anciens marins devenus enseignants de techniques de pêche ou de navigation. Ils nous ont raconté les conditions de leur apprentissage et de leur exercice sur le navire et au lycée maritime, les circonstances de leurs orientations professionnelles successives. Les enseignants de techniques maritimes révèlent les objets principaux de leur activité : faire respecter les règles du métier et faire acquérir les savoirs maritimes à leurs élèves. Souvent confrontés à des élèves ayant un rapport difficile à l’école et parfois considérés comme des « terriens », ils mettent en œuvre des instruments variés pour faire acquérir le goût du milieu maritime et intégrer les contraintes de cet environnement dans les apprentissages.
Cet article apporte une vision critique de la transposition didactique de l’approche dominante de la psychologie, étendue aujourd’hui à la psychologie de l’éducation. D’abord, nous présentons les principes scientifiques retenus dans la formation en psychologie. Ces principes concernent la notion de participant, les objets de recherche privilégiés et l’activité du chercheur. Nous montrons, à la suite d’Habermas (1987), que cette psychologie participe à une « colonisation du monde vécu » et à un rétrécissement historico-culturel de celui-ci. Nous proposons enfin une alternative épistémologique et méthodologique permettant une relecture de ces trois principes dans une perspective historico-culturelle.
